3 SIGMA CHI Sigma Chi PrePareS for a Strong 2014 Actives Promote Leadership, Academics, and Alumni Involvement F resh off a successful fall semester, the brothers of the Alpha Beta Chapter are back at it with renewed vigor. Brothers Sunil Iyer '15 and Brendan Vinnecomb '16 hosted an exceptional recruitment week that led to us gaining 11 young men who look to be future leaders of the chapter. PHILANTHROPY REMAINS CHAPTER STRENGTH On the philanthropic front, Alpha Beta continues the tradition of consistency and commitment to serving the community and aiding Sigma Chi's sole preferred partner, the Huntsmen Cancer Institute. A majority of our brothers are involved in philanthropic efforts that extend out of the house as well. We are very excited and look forward to having another successful Derby Days. Led by Derby Days Chairmen William Harkin '16 and Graham Laver '15, we have high hopes of beating our previous years in the amount of money raised. CHANGES TO ACADEMIC STRUCTURE Alpha Beta has again invested itself in being an academically strong chapter, competitive with all other chapters on campus. In order to further cultivate an atmosphere of academic excellence, we have begun refurnishing our study room with new tables, chairs, bookshelves, and whiteboards. Among several new chapter-specific academic incentive programs, we also seek to provide a scholarship to incoming freshmen next fall. While we have strong leaders inside the chapter, they also excel in various organizations on campus. Brother Camron Baradar '15 continues his efforts in Berkeley Consulting, recently being elected vice president in the highly competitive organization. Graham Laver '15 has also proved to be a virtuous leader on campus in regard to his organization, Undergraduate Marketing Association. Recently elected as vice president as well, he is moving the organization even further in a direction of esteem and prestige. Recently, we have refocused our efforts into incorporating alumni into our chapter as much as possible with great results. Our alumni steak dinner was an enjoyable night for all who attended. Career Chairman Alexander Triana '16 has invited Sigma Chi alumni to speak to our chapter about their careers. As always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding the chapter or about visiting the house.
