Think. Conserve. T here are not many things that last 40 years. Marriages can last 40 years, but what about parties? My marriage is in its 45th year and the ACC Bullshoot has lasted 40 years as well (see pic- tures). Some friends and I have been hosting a party of basketball fans for the last four decades to eat BBQ, watch the Friday ACC games and "shoot the bull." It started in Bobby Bleecker's apartment at Winding Creek behind Max Abbott Middle School. It has morphed from a handful of die- hard fans to over 200 people today. It used to be very difficult to get a ticket to the prestigious ACC tournament, especially when only the final game was televised. In 1974, the tournament was made available on TV and that is what spawned the current gathering. A few years ago, one local attorney tagged it as "the largest gathering of men in Cumberland County." Men love to attend so they can visit with old friends. With this being an election year, most politicians were in attendance. I have been hosting the event at my house for the past seven years. Previously it was hosted at the homes of Bleecker and Ken Lancaster. For the most part of the last 40 years, the weather has been great, thanks to the Lord. is year was no exception. We have a tent and big screen television set up courtesy of our friend Mark Lynch at Quality Sound and Video. e Dogwood Festival is here again. Hopefully with all this change in weather, we will have Dogwoods blooming that last weekend in April. CityView has had a presence at the festival for many years and we will be there again in 2014. e year Hootie and the Blowfish played, they were on our Dogwood issue cover. It was before Festival Park was completed and really set the tone for future events. e Dogwood issue is our favorite issue. It is a special issue and is very popular with our advertisers. We also have a feature story on food trucks, which bring back fond memories of the ice cream truck days. Growing up in Haymount, the ice cream truck would pull up to the curb a block away from my childhood home. e music was so loud we could hear it on our street and would run to get money from our mom and rush down to choose and devour our favorite flavor. e ACC Bullshoot has lasted while ice cream trucks have not. It looks like food trucks in Fayetteville are here to stay. Marshall and his son, Hughes
