REDDING » Shasta Live! is launching its season-ticket campaign with the an- nouncement of artists to appear during the 2014- 2015 concert season. "We are committed to bringing high-quality fam- ily entertainment to the community," said President Jane Wittman. "This new roster of artists is an excep - tional example of our own unique contribution to the entertainment landscape in Redding." The line-up features fi - ery violin and guitar duo Alex DePue with Miguel DeHoyos; musical comedian Al Simmons; famed veteran of "The New Christy Min - strels," William Florian; and season closer, a trib- ute to "old Blue Eyes" "Sim- ply Sinatra, featuring Steve Lippia," with a live big band. Early-bird season tick- ets to the four-concert se- ries are $70 through April 10. Student and family pack- ages are also available. For more information, call 530-247-7355 or visit the as- sociation online at http:// www.shastalive.com. Shasta Live! is an all-vol- unteer concert organization, presenting an annual perfor- mance series in Redding. The artists: Alex DePue with Miguel DeHoyos is the youngest sibling of the famed "DePue Brothers," who have built their fame as bluegrass musicians on con - spicuously successful clas- sical music careers. Pre- cocious as a youth, Alex achieved top honors in youth violin competitions and na- tional fiddles contests. He is making his own genre- bending mark on the fami- ly's legacy appearing with Steve Vai, Nashville record- ing artist Chris Cagle, and his duo project with Mexican guitarist Miguel DeHoyos. This unique international pairing is a wildly eclectic and virtuosic tour of classi - cal and popular repertoire. Performances feature origi- nal arrangements of a mate- rial from Bach to the Eagles. Al Simmons Vaudeville's half-century of popularity may have passed, but don't tell that to Al Simmons. He has delighted audiences with his gadget-filled musical comedy style for over three decades, inspired by the work of Spike Jones and Danny Kaye. Simmons' album "Celery Stalks" was the 1995 Juno Award-winner for "Best Children's Album," and his illustrated children's book "Counting Feathers" was short-listed for McNally- Robinson's "Book of the Year" in 1997. He has produced three audio CDs, all of which were Parent's Choice honorees and Juno Award nominated. Simmons is proud to have a hot dog named after him in his hometown of Anola, Manitoba. William Florian William Florian's show "Those were the Days" cel- ebrates the high-point of popularity for folk music, the 1960s. Florian is an icon of the period, providing lead vocals for the hit single "To - day" recorded by "The New Christy Minstrels." The con- tinuing success of his tour- ing show is a testament to the depth of passion that persists for this genre. Flo- rian's performances also in- clude a wealth of humorous firsthand accounts from his experiences, including en- counters with luminaries such as John Denver. He has recorded three self-pro- duced albums. Simply Sinatra, featuring Steve Lippia Steve Lippia's "consid- erable vocal skills" (Wall Street Journal) have estab- lished his widespread no- toriety at corporate events and with symphony orches- tras, casinos and performing arts centers across the coun- try. Originally moonlighting with local bands in Florida, the undeniable likeness to Sinatra's style steered Lip - pia into a new, unexpected career. His fame spread to the national jazz scene touring as the featured vo - calist with the Woody Her- man Band, a position once occupied by his mother. He has recorded an album for Warner Brothers' Studios, and two live CDs: "Steve Lippia Live," and Grammy- nominated "Steve Lippia in Concert." Television ap - pearances include "Extra" (WBTV), "Good Day New York" (Fox) and "Showbiz Today" (CNN).
