hree years ago, Dropping the
Puck on Cancer was established
by the men of Sigma Chi and Beta
Theta Pi at Indiana University. By
taking advantage of a healthy college
rivalry, we were able to create a
hockey game that is entertaining to
watch, and is successful in raising
money for a good cause. We raised
$11,700 in the first year, and $25,000
the second year. This year we are
closing in on raising $35,000. Last
year our money funded a grant for an
American Brain Tumor Association
study that went on to win the Lucien
Rubenstein Award, given to the study
that receives the highest review scores
of all research fellowships.
This year we saw the return of The
Cure-It Cup to Sigma Chi. The game
was a nail-biter to the very end with
us scoring in overtime to win. This
event is one of the most memorable
events our Chapter organizes, and
provides players and fans alike with
a unique experience that embodies
the great aims that our Fraternity was
founded on. As a two-year player
in the Frat Classic, the enthusiasm
shown by my brothers in the stands
made me proud.
