In 2009 Colorado Alpha formed a housing committee that would eventually lead to the start of this chapter's first full-scale capital campaign. We brought on board a key partner, Pennington & Company, to help us manage and plan the campaign. With their direct involvement and guidance we formed a capital campaign committee, set goals, and learned how to manage a successful campaign. Over the last several years I have had the opportunity to work with many brothers on the campaign. We spoke with many of you, reconnecting with old friends and making new connections along the way. We also learned that running a campaign from the ground up is hard work, and that Colorado Alpha can do a better job of keeping alumni informed and providing more opportunities for engagement. At the same time, we learned that the principles of our fraternity are still embedded deep within us, that we all have cherished memories of our days in a fraternal organization that still strives to build better men. So here we are—five years later and many of you have asked how your generous contributions have been spent and if the campaign has been successful. We believe that although the campaign did not meet our fundraising goals, we touched many brothers and let the word out that Colorado Alpha is alive and well. That is a success. Between our work with Pennington & Company and our volunteer committee we reached out to over 1,200 alumni and $370,518 was committed to the campaign. We have received $223,617, which is 60% of all commitments. Of that amount, $126,520 has been deposited in the SigEp National Educational Foundation Fund with the balance of the contributions deposited in the AVC campaign account. To date campaign expenditures total over $300,000, of which approximately $190,000 was spent on the new site wall at 1005 Broadway: a significant capital project that created a wonderful multi-purpose courtyard and anchored the chapter at the corner of the recently rebuilt intersection of Broadway and 16th. The balance of the expenditures includes fees and costs associated with management of the campaign. A consultant from Pennington provided complete support for the campaign, with the preparation of a feasibility report, visiting and traveling across the country to meet donors, providing the database of our members, training and building the campaign committee, and tracking and collecting the campaign contributions. The foundation educational contributions to the site wall project totaled $62,068, while the corporation funds covered additional costs of the project and management of the campaign. The remaining balance of these costs was funded by an AVC controlled equity account. We will continue to collect the remaining pledge commitments, knowing that more improvements to the chapter house are still needed, and to pay down our financial commitments for the work completed to date. Among our priorities are upgrades that will contribute to the Residential Learning Community (RLC) program to ensure that academic excellence remains strong at Colorado Alpha. In closing, I want to personally thank every donor for your contribution, every volunteer for you're your hard work, and to Pennington & Company, for their support and professionalism. For those brothers yet to fulfill their pledges, please know that we are counting on your commitment to Colorado Alpha, and your funds are very much needed to complete the work. Thank you again to all brothers for your support and dedication!
