By Rich Greene rgreene@redbluffdailynews.com @richgreenenews on Twitter Red Bluff » It's becoming a too common occurrence for Lay Av- enue resident Myra Taylor. On Monday afternoon she received word that a giant tree branch had fallen at her home, blocking access to her driveway. She knew which tree it was. Five years ago the same thing happened, twice. In August 2009 the city- owned giant oak in front of her home lost two of its massive arms. The first branch tore chunks out of the home's roof, smashed a $400 carport and split power line. Where the branch was sev - ered, water the tree had been storing to survive the summer heat spilled out. The Taylor family was forced to spend a night away from home. But the day after they re - turned, another branch fell, damaging and denting several neighboring cars. Monday's latest break at least came without any prop - erty damage. It avoided the rebuilt carport, narrowly missed a power line and fell away from any parked cars. The National Weather Ser - vice recorded wind gusts of up to 31 mph at the Red Bluff Mu- nicipal Airport Monday. The State Theatre and the Tehama County Arts Council, which has been sponsoring Mis - soula Children's Theatre since 2001, presented the production that featured more than 50 stu - dents. Directors Lauren Butler, who also played the role of Detective Del, P.I., and Brandon Alpert spent a week in Tehama County rounding up talent and hosting rehearsals and workshops that were said to reach more than 500 students. After a production that cel - ebrated hope and life through dancing firef lies and garden vines, and the cast took a bow, Alpert told show-goers: "Mis - soula Children's Theatre has been around since 1970.
