GAMMA ETA GAZETTE 3 Founding Brother and alumni oF the Year award winner tim marwill '92 T im Marwill '92 seized the opportunity to be a part of something different. He was a part of the founding members, the original 13, who shaped the future and foundation of the fraternity. It took the group nearly three years to get the fraternity chartered and initiated. It would be only fitting that one of Tim's favorite memories from Gamma Eta is the rechartering ceremony, along with the intramural sports and meetings held in Burdine Hall. After graduation Tim has made it a point to stay involved in the chapter. "It is the best way I know to give back. I had made such great, long-lasting friendships and I truly feel fortunate to have had the experience I did. I got so much out of the chapter and grew up with leadership and lifelong friendships." Tim's involvement with Gamma Eta has also helped him keep in touch with his fraternity brothers and meet new faces. "It keeps me young. When I go back for meetings, I feel like I am an undergrad." Tim is president of the House Corporation, where he helps keep the house running smoothly. He eventually hopes they can renovate the house and truly make it into the "ATW house." Tim is also a member of the Board of Trustees (1994-present), which helps the chapter achieve True Merit. He hopes to start a program where alumni help actives obtain internships and jobs as they graduate. In November, Tim was honored at the inaugural Alumni Award Banquet and received the Alumni of the Year Award. "When I heard I was getting the award I was shocked and overwhelmed. It was truly a great honor." The award banquet was a new idea last semester. The chapter hoped it would reconnect alumni and create interaction between alumni and undergraduates. Tim hopes it becomes an annual event and reminds alumni that the chapter can always use help. He encourages alumni to reach out and help give back to their chapter. "There isn't much of a time commitment, plus it is very rewarding. The chapter is grateful for any interaction with alumni," he says. "It brings you right back to your undergraduate days." Tim lives in Austin, Texas, where he is an investment advisor and certified financial planner. He helps families create strategies for funding retirement, charitable giving, and college education, as well as minimizing income and estate taxes. He and his wife, Kelly, keep busy with their three children: Jay (6), Grant (4), and Marla (2).
