By hosting free educational events throughout April, local organizations will honor the near- ly 5,000 young children ages 0 to 5 countywide. “Building better futures for young children is what Tehama County and First 5 Tehama is all about,” said Denise Snider, execu- tive director of First 5 Tehama. “What we do to make programs and resources readily available to parents and caregivers is an investment in our children’s future success, as well as our community.” The Tehama County Educa- tion Foundation has scheduled the 24th Annual Children’s Faire for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 30 at the Tehama District Fairground. The event will feature crafts, fun games, educational activities and the tri-county Mobile Dental Clinic — all free. Find out how to qualify for free dental services and learn more about oral health options in Tehama County. As part of this celebration, the First 5 Tehama funded School Readiness program through Tehama County Department of Education is focusing on early lit- eracy by encouraging children and their families to read daily and be prepared for kindergarten. The program is offering a variety of playgroups that will assist par- ents in helping their children be ready for school. Contact your local library to check out books or visit the First Steps Family Resource Center at Los Molinos Elementary for additional reading options.
