Reed continued, "Now that many of our members work out- side of the home, they don't have a lot of free time. With the League, a vol- unteer group is already there for you. You don't have to do a lot of research because some of us simply don't have time to do that…it's already there. Speaking of opportunities to serve, Fayetteville's chapter has a nar- rowed focus dedicated to improving child mental health, which began in 2009-2010. JLF, along with several agencies in the community collaborated to form the Child Mental Health Advisory Board. Along with President Melis- sa Reed, mental health profession- als from Cumberland Mental Health Agency, Womack Army Medical Center, the Autism Society, Fayette- ville Family Life Center, Partnership for Children of Cumberland County, Cumberland County Schools, among others serve on the board. Every year, non-profits from across Cumberland County are encouraged to apply for the League's Community Assistance Program (CAP) Grants in order to help financially support enti- ties that help our children. e Junior League receives money through donations, but a considerable amount is also derived from sales of the "e Carolina Collection Cook- book" and especially the four-day holiday bazaar which is almost synon- ymous with the Junior League itself… the Holly Day Fair. e Holly Day Fair concept began in 1966 as a Christmas card sales fund. In 1989 at the Crown Expo Center, it grew to having an attendance well over 25,000 and a profit of $105,000. Today, the Holly Day Fair is the largest holiday gi and cra show in Eastern North Carolina.
