Brandi Bales, of Blythe, used to work at Town Hall in Quartzsite, and recently joined the military and was deployed overseas. Her unit has been adopted by Operation Hero Comfort, and she asked them if they would consider adopting another unit that her friend had been assigned to and who had also just been deployed. They are now the 9th unit that receive packages twice each month from Operation Hero Comfort. The friends’ name is Isabel Contreras, and she just wrote aa very special thank you to OHC for includ- ing her unit in their efforts to send packages to units in harm’s way. Anita Carlson, of Quartzsite, along with her husband Doc, started sending packages to the troop units that their family members were M 16, 2011 Operation Hero Comfort receives letter of thanks in many years ago. When their family members re- turned from their tours, Doc and Anita kept sending packages to their replacements. When Doc died sev- eral years ago, Anita decided that to honor him, she would keep sending the packages and keep Opera- tion Hero Comfort going as long as it was needed. Operation Hero Comfort now has 9 adopted units, and they receive at least 4 or more boxes each month. She hears back from some of the units sometimes, but this letter was so special she wanted to share it with everyone so they would know how much these troops enjoy getting their packages and how much it means to OHC to know they are appreciated. Here is the letter she just received: MEXICAN AND AMERICAN FOOD Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner 1099 W. MAIN ST. Quartzsite DAILY SPECIALS! CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED! BIG SCREEN TVS! Dear Mrs. Carlson: I am deeply moved and appre- ciate you, your familhy, and friends that have put so much time and effort to put together these care packages. I can honestly tell you that your packages are gone within minutes, being that I have the big- gest crew on base. You do play a signifi cant part in our deployment, especially for my members that are single or don’t have any family members. To receive something in the mail is a big thing. We did receive all of the boxes, although it is barely starting to warm up here to 38 degrees, we will have use for the cool collars when it reaches 60 degrees! Being from California, I can appreciate that!! We do have a microwave and access to a DVD player. Tell the ladies at the Senior Center we thank you! Also, tell Ms.Joanne that I am sorry that we will not be able to return all of the postcards, but I did have Senior Airman Williams write a response that everything was in good shape and we are grateful for your time and effort. I was a little choked up about your husband and I also have family that experienced that era and hav- ing you by his side,I know that he was/is proud of the service that you gave your country as well.
