KAPPA ALPhA ThETA 5 E very two years Purdue's former cheerleaders are invited back for a reunion at Homecoming. Margaret Grein Grant '44 joined two other Alpha Chi cheerleaders on the field during halftime of Purdue's Homecoming game, September 28, 2013. Margaret is pictured with Linda Gennett Irmscher '65 (left) and Marta Mann Gerometta '65 (right). At 88, Margaret is the oldest living former Purdue cheerleader. While she loved being a cheerleader, she said it was quite time-consuming. She has wonderful memories of her years at Purdue. "They were fun times and also very sad times, but they brought everyone together." All the sororities helped wrap bandages for the war effort, and they all pitched in to help around their sorority houses because there was a shortage of manpower. Margaret grew up in Evansville, Indiana, and majored in agriculture with the hope of working as a florist. She graduated and soon after got married. Her daughter, Candace, Delta Upsilon '81, was a Theta at Eastern Kentucky, and her son, Hank, received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Purdue and now teaches at the University of Oklahoma. O ur fall Theta Kite newsletter included an insert for providing us with new addresses, e-mails, and career information. We were delighted with the number received and are including excerpts from a few. The updates are also posted on our website, www.alphachithetas.org. Mary Elizabeth Frazee '39 lives in San Antonio, Texas. She was initiated at Purdue, graduated from Gettysburg College in 1942, and received her MS.Ed from NYU in 1954. She was a physical therapist in the U.S. Army and retired as a Lt. Col. in 1970. Mary receives her 75-year Theta pin this year. Ruth Frier Shively Oliver '41 lives at Westminster Village in West Lafayette. She is the niece of Bernice Duryea Nicol 1915, a charter member of Alpha Chi Chapter. Ruth was active at Purdue: coed executive of Purdue Student Union, Gold Peppers, Student Union Board, and president of Panhellenic. She raised three children and later served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Jamaica from 1989 to 1991. Ruth received the Purdue Alumni Citizenship Award in 1997. E-mail: ruth_oliver_335@comcast.net Dorothy Darnall Jones '46 followed two sisters who were Alpha Chi Thetas, Marietta Darnall Schilling '39 and Martha Darnall Bozell '44. A teacher in the Crawfordsville school system, Dorothy retired in 1985 and moved with her husband, Marsh, to Madison, Indiana. In 2012 she received Madison's Community Heritage Award for a biography she published in 2007 on Emilie Todd Helm, Mary Todd Lincoln's half-sister. She wrote, "The book is in the White House Library in the section on Presidents' families." Zoe E. Coulson '51 recently moved from Philadelphia to West Lafayette, Ind. A 1954 graduate of Purdue, Zoe entered the business world. She was the editor of The Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook. In 1981, she became vice president consumer affairs for Campbell Soup Company and also served on the board of directors for Rubbermaid Inc. Business Week Magazine included Zoe in a 1983 issue on the 50 Top Female Executives. E-mail: zcoulson@aol.com Rhonda Rottschafer Sherwood '81 and her husband, David, live in Darien, Conn., with their three children. Rhonda received her MBA from Northwestern in 1986. She is the vice chairman for Mount Sinai Children's Environmental Health Center in New York City, working with doctors who study chemicals in products we use every day that are suspected of causing health problems in children. A Purdue cheerleader and Old Masters Committee member, Susan graduated in 2000 with a degree in agriculture. She is the director of sales and marketing for the Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa. E-mail: susang22@yahoo.com Patricia Lindbloom Schwegmann '00 lives in Champaign, Ill. She and her husband, Michael, are co-owners of Schwegmann Studios. Michael is a ceramic sculptor and Patty is a jewelry artist working in porcelain and silver. She writes, "We enjoy traveling together to show our work across the country." E-mail: pattylindbloom@ hotmail.com Sarah Johnson '00 lives in Boulder, Colo., where she is president and owner of Inovautus Consulting, a company that helps accounting firms and other service-based businesses evaluate their marketing efforts and develop growth plans. At Purdue, she was Theta house manager, secretary of SMC (School of Management Connect), a member of the Junior Board of Urban Initiatives, and in the first class of interns for Indiana. She recently started a new career with Ameriprise Financial Services Inc. as a financial planner. Aubrey held several positions on the Purdue Exponent staff and won the 2008 Purdue Exponent Leadership Award. She is president of the Purdue Alumnae Club of Washington, D.C. She reports that the 2004 pledge class gets together several times a year, including their annual spring break trip to Florida. "Working at the Statehouse is always interesting and I have met many Thetas working in the legislative branch. Even my boss is a Theta!" Ali manages social media accounts, creates online content, produces videos, and manages their e-newsletter system. All five are Purdue alumnae and the last three were Alpha Chi Thetas. From left: Judy Sargeant Lockett '51, Cynthia Sargeant Shrier '48, Sally Sargeant Reeves '45, Nancy Sargeant H. Bishop, who transferred to the University of Kansas, and Barbara Sargeant Aikin, who graduated in 1946 and earned her master's degree from the University of Wisconsin.
