2B – Daily News – Monday, March 14, 2011 WIN Continued from page 1B Robinson advanced two bases on the play to give the Spartans runners on the corners. Storm Lewis proceeded to drive in Robinson, as part of a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Red Bluff’s runners then advanced to second and third on a wild pitch to set up Brownfield, who ripped a single over the third base bag to give the Spartans a 3-1 lead. The lead held, despite Rio Linda constantly putting the Spartans defense into jams. A 4-6-3 double play ball got Red Bluff out of trouble in the second. Rio Linda loaded the bases with just one out in the third, but Baker caught a batter looking and got the third out with a fly out to Robby Lasby in left field. In the fifth inning with one out and a runner on first Baker faced Dustin Jenkins, who was already 2-for-2 with a monster double. Baker battled Jenkins and eventually got him to check swing a line drive to first base, which Lewis caught and then tagged first for the double play. Red Bluff picked up two more runs when Lasby led off the sixth inning with a double. Pinch hitter Jorge Caldera once again found a way to get hit by a pitch. Two batters later Fox drew a walk to load the bases. With two outs, Ramirez singled to drive home Lasby and pinch runner Taylor Figgs and the Spar- tans led 5-1.
