Spring Theatre Academy seeks youth Shasta College stu- dents will present an evening of family enter- tainment with lobby activities prior to the show, including chil- dren’s games and prizes, staged gun fighting and robberies, a drawing for gifts and music by local country musician Chad Bushnell. Lobby activities start at 6:30 p.m., film screens at 7 p.m. Pro- ceeds will benefit an expanded Western Film series in 2010 in cooper- ation with the Tehama County Arts Council. Cost is $5 for ages 13 and up, $3 ages 6-12 and free for 5 and under. On Saturday, watch the film ‘Challenge of Champions’ at the State Theatre, 333 Oak St. in Red Bluff. The Challenge of Champions is a docu- mentary telling the story of an epic match between world champion bull rider Lane Frost and Red Bluff’s own world cham- pion bucking bull, Red Rock. Local rodeo stock contractor John Growney and former Red Bluff resident and pho- tographer Sue Rosoff both feature prominently and will be available at the evening reception. Film maker David Wittkower will also be present at the evening reception. This is a benefit for the State Theatre for the Arts and Tehama County Arts Council. A Matinee showing is at 2 p.m. and an evening show is a 7 p.m. Cost is $3 for matinee and $5 for evening showing. Patrons showing a pre-sale ticket for The Challenge of Champions will receive one free small popcorn. Due to the cutting of education budgets in Cali- fornia in the area of arts education, Manton School strives to keep its music program in place through proceeds from its annual Bluegrass Festival auc- tion, entertainment and dinner. The school is pleased to have AJ Lee and Molly Tuttle as the headline band. They have showcased at the International Bluegrass Music Association in Nashville, Tenn. Students from the Manton School Bluegrass Music program will open for the act. Molly Tuttle and AJ Lee are two of the finest young singers in the country playing bluegrass and old-time music based in Palo Alto. The Tuttles with AJ Lee have impressed audiences around the Bay Area and beyond with their high-level bluegrass skills. They have been featured on television, in magazines and newspapers and on radio for their amazing blueg ass singing and picking. Tuttle, 18, has captured attention on the national blueg ass scene with her high level playing and singing. Lee, 13, is one of the finest young bluegrass singers in the country. With a full voice that reflects a deep understanding of bluegrass singing despite her young age, she has been a favorite at bluegrass festivals for years. The auction is the main fundraiser for the event and the Bluegrass Committee is seeking donations from businesses and individuals, which in the past have included gift certificates, spa or golf pack- ages, weekend getaways and lodging, retail items, gift baskets and jewelry. To donate an auction item, call auction coordinator Desiree Bryant at 474- 6103. The item can be picked up at the donor's conve- nience. All donations are tax deductible.
