Barry Beisner, Bishop came to Corning on Feb. 20 to install the Rev. Diana Lueckert as Priest In Charge for St. Andrew's Church in Corning. The Redding Choir, Saints Alive came to sing and the Rev. Maryly Adair, the Rev. Greg Churchill and the Rev. Charles Poole attended. The historical church never seemed so happy as were the members of St. Andrews who felt a renewed hope for the church’s future. The Rev. Lueckert is active in the Total Ministry community. She recently transferred to this diocese from the diocese of Olympia but has been licensed here for some time. She is working with a total ministry team in training that consists of members from St. Andrews in Corning and Good Shepherd in Orland. Five minutes to count down If you knew you only had five min- utes to say whatever you wanted, and the whole world would hear it, what would it be? There are those who may take for granted the opportunity to communi- cate with others in all types of formats. As a professional writer, I appreciate the written word. I know that it can have an influence on those who read it. The reality is, once words are spoken, written and published, sent into cyber- space, no one really knows who or who doesn’t hear or read the words. It’s like tooth paste though, once squeezed out of the tube, you can’t put it back in. The fear of being misunder- stood might cause many to shy away from communicating. The power of words can be creative or destructive, and there is wisdom to know when to say or not say certain things. One of the things I address in my book "Pitfalls From Put-Off’s: Memoirs of a Procrastinator," is the challenge we face when we do not speak up when needed. Perhaps some- one says something, it was painful to hear, yet we do not say anything. No boundaries are set. Later other words are spoken that create even more wounds. Putting off addressing the issue can cause irreversible damage, causing loss of relationships, jobs, even starting wars. We can also put-off saying things that encourage others. Perhaps we are too busy to slow down and tell people how much we appreciate them for who they are. This is challenging in the world we live in. Fears and thoughts arise that would cause many to withdraw. Questions come to mind. What if I was to tell someone that I was thankful and appreciated the fact they were in my life; then they misun- derstood me and thought I was trying to manipulate them? What if I was reaching out to others and they reject- ed me, and then said some- thing that crushed my heart? What if I said some- thing unknowingly that was not politically correct? What if I don’t care if I am politically correct? Fear will cause many to retreat at a time when we need to move forward, showing love and compassion. How can we do that? Some may say we can’t help anyone, the economy is bad and there is no money. Fuel prices are high. These are all true statements. Yet I would like to offer an idea. Although we are all adjusting to the changes in this world, we may have one thing in common. We need other people in our lives for many reasons. The one thing we can do that is not dependant on circumstances that sur- round us, money in the bank, or having special gifts and talents are: We can share a kind word with others or just smile at a stranger as we travel along this pathway in our journey called life. It is my hope that we do not put Brenda Ballentine GodTalk know that person a little more. My point is communication: talk- ing to others, sharing thoughts, telling stories, lis- tening and laughing with someone else it is all a part of life. We can experience this together no matter what is happening in the world around us. Now is the time to speak out, write, listen, or share with others our thoughts. Who knows what tomorrow holds; only God. Yet I know today is a gift to share with those around us in one way or the other. If you only had five minutes to share, what would you say? Fortunately, most of us will have more than that, now the question is "What will we do"? The choice is ours to make each day. things off, for I have found there are many pitfalls I have fallen into by doing so. That is one of the reasons I decided to write the book, to commu- nicate with others about procrastina- tion. I mean also to offer laughter and encouragement as well as insights about an area we may struggle with. We all have stories to tell and this is another way of sharing with each other. They can be humorous, sad, or even embarrassing; nevertheless, they are stories. Once someone tells you a story about another, you feel like you I am a Marriage and Family Psy- chotherapist Licensed Intern, working on my Doctorate in Clinical Psycholo- gy. Muslims spreading peace with city outreach PATERSON, N.J. (MCT) — When Muslim extremists hijacked planes to use as missiles against New York and Washington, they in effect hijacked Islam, said Kashif Chaudhry, an Englewood, N.J., doctor. So for the past year, almost every weekend, he and thou- sands of other Muslim-Americans across the country have fought to get it back — and reverse a popular belief among Westerners that their religion promotes violence. They wage this public relations war with advertisements on the sides of buses, brochures handed out on street corners and simple conversation with anyone who'll listen. On Sunday, the Muslims for Peace movement's North Jersey chapter was in Paterson, N.J., at the corner of Market and Main streets passing out pamphlets that read "Love for all — Hatred for none." In a month or so, they'll likely fan out to Bergen County, perhaps Englewood, Chaudhry said. "I want to change the perception out there," said Anwar Muhammad, one of the more than dozen volunteers, most- ly from the same Clifton, N.J., mosque, standing at the Paterson intersection. "Most Muslims are not violent and proclaiming jihad." The campaign, run by the worldwide Ahmadiyya Mus- lim Community, aims to counter negative generalizations about Muslims that have led to such turmoil as the protests over building a mosque near Ground Zero. Chaudhry, 28, said the timing of their effort with the recent clashes between dictators and pro-democracy pro- testers across the Middle East was coincidence. But the rel- evance is there. Here, also, their brochures are not always well received. "My job is to deliver a message of peace," said Muham- mad, who emigrated from Pakistan about six years ago. "If someone is not ready to accept it, that has to be their choice." Tehama County Church Directory HOYT-COLE CHAPEL OF THE FLOWERS 816 Walnut St. - Red Bluff Red Bluff....
