our family." Kelsey's family also carries a Greek torch, and while none are alumnae of DG, she knew it was the right fit for her. "Everybody was so welcoming. I knew this was the place I wanted to be." Shannon had a similar experience while going through recruitment. "Each member I spoke with wanted to connect on a deeper level. The Delta Gamma women and the house itself truly felt like home to me in a place farther away than I was used to." "Tau Chapter taught me how important family truly is," says Shannon. "The big/little sister dynamic taught me that these 'familial' relationships are really the foundation on how you build all relationships, and they made me appreciate my real family so much more, including my actual little sister." During her tenure as Chapter president, Kelsey, too, learned the importance of building relationships and how that related to her career path. "Nursing is a field where it pays off to be personable, and through my leadership role in DG, I learned how to better connect with people and work together to achieve goals. Tau is made of different kinds of women, and that diversity prepared me for the future." "It has been amazing to be a part of Tau Chapter," says Carley. "I have made so many great friendships that I know will last long after college. I am proud to call these women my sisters and am excited to see what great things they will do in their lives. I'm so thankful for Delta Gamma. My college career would not have been nearly as rewarding and amazing without it." Carley plans on studying for the nursing board exam in Iowa City as she continues her job search in the St. Louis area. She hopes to work as a critical-care nurse in either an ICU or emergency department setting. You can contact Carley at carley-morrison@uiowa.edu. For Kelsey, her thoughts on being an alumna tie back to what she experienced through DG. "I look forward to mentoring and advising in the future. One of the best things about being in the Chapter was living in the house. You form bonds with these women and have the opportunity to meet all kinds of individuals, so it will be exciting to meet younger generations that come through the house, and for me, to see the chapter operate through the eyes of an alumna and gain a whole new perspective." You can reach Kelsey at kelsey-rasmussen@uiowa.edu. "Delta Gamma helped me become a better person overall," says Shannon. "I am more outgoing, continue to be a strong advocate for volunteering, and am dedicated to being the best woman I can be for myself and, most importantly, for others." Since she started volunteering with Service for Sight, Shannon has visited New York and Romania for medically-based volunteer opportunities. "As an alumna, I look forward to staying close to Tau in Iowa City and watching their progress, and hopefully contributing to it." Connect with Shannon at shannon-becker@uiowa.edu.
