Being in the same pledge class brought them together as sisters, and following the same dream through nursing school helped form a bond that propelled them to graduation. "I made up my mind to be a nurse before becoming a DG, but it definitely helped me as a support and networking system in my career path," says Carley. "It was great having Kelsey and Shannon in all of my classes and being able to help each other with studying. In addition, I am also in contact with other DG alumnae who graduated from UI's College of Nursing, and they have been great about giving advice." Kelsey also credits an alumna for her career encouragement. "Jan Brodie Riley '76 was a nurse in the [pediatric oncology] unit I'm going to work in at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), so talking with her about her experiences solidified that I wanted to work in that particular field of nursing. We also volunteered a lot at the University hospital, so being there made me realize that's where I wanted to work." Shannon will also work at UIHC in the orthopedic unit, and she found that volunteering played a big role not only in her career choice, but also in her DG experience as a whole. "I have always been a strong advocate for volunteering, and Delta Gamma does more than Do Good. Giving back to our community and at large, as much as possible, is something I will always be proud of." All three women came to Delta Gamma for different reasons. Carley is a legacy, following in the footsteps of her mom, Elizabeth Costanzo Morrison '81, and her sister, Lindsey Morrison '08.
