Music fills the city of Red Bluff The opportunity for those living in Red Bluff and several areas of Tehama County will be able to seek out won- derful music in Red Bluff on Feb. 8 and 9. It is a fantastic opportunity to be able to attend the Presbyterian Church, 838 Jefferson St. in Red Bluff. The 19th Annual Choral will be presented by Allan Petker. The workshop will begin on Feb. 8 with registration at 8:30 a.m. and will last until 4 p.m. The fee for the work- shop on Saturday is $40 which includes excellent lunch, snacks and music. Allan Petker teaches the songs. On Sunday the songs are presented during the annual Ecumenical Choral Worship Services. Many residents in Tehama County have participated in the wonderful, music taught by Allan Petker, who is a composer, publisher who conducts his own choir in the Bay Area, Concert Chorale, as well the Santa Clarita Master Chorale. He is also dean of the music conference "Summer Sing" at Lake Tahoe, Nev., where a group of 150 singers meet in August. Petker puts experience to work over all the hours on Saturday in order to have the energy of all to present the music to all on the Sun- day Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Petker is a high energy guy who keeps the singers working at a pretty fast pace for the day. The Sunday service perfor- mance is one of Petker's greatest joys. Many people practice singing the musical songs, learn vocal technique, and make new friends, have fun. All people are welcome to attend the Pres- byterian Church of Red Bluff at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9. Music soothes the soul for those of us who will be able to attend the 19th annual workshop this year. Songs from many years have gone by and some have entered our world presently. "Sing your way home at the close of the day, Sing your way home, drive your shadows away, Smile every mile, for wherever you roam, It will brighten your road, It will lighten your load, If you sing your way home." Hope to see you at the Annual Choral Music at the Presbyter- ian Church. Carolyn Barber has been writing her column in the Daily News since 1992. It appears on Saturdays.
