GIRLS HOOPS Pleasant Valley 76 Red Bluff 35 By RICHGREENE DN Sports Editor By all indicators except one, Red Bluff Union High School had a win- ning night, Tuesday. The Lady Spartans did find them- selves on the wrong side of a 76-35 score to Pleasant Valley, but Red Bluff’s Pink Out night to raise cancer awareness was widely regarded as a winner. On the court the top ranked Pleasant Valley team had too many weapons and missed too few of shots, Tuesday, for Red Bluff to compete. Five Vikings scored at least eight points, led by 15 from Emma Limburg and 14 from Kelsey Miller. Roxy Luppino led Red Bluff with nine points behind three third quarter triples. Cori Schatz added eight points, Alana Hinkston had seven, Lottie Jones five and Ashley Brown, Morgan Weaver and Krista Rodriguez each had a bucket. Francesca Bonacorsi hit a buzzer beating 3-pointer to end the third quar- ter for Pleasant Valley, putting the Vikings up 61-31 and pretty much summarizing the entire game. The Vikings didn’t miss and the Spartans turned the ball over too much. Pleasant Valley went up 40 points with 4:13 remaining to start the mercy rule running clock. But it was a night where more than just basketball was celebrated with the focus on team unity and the ability to use sports to draw awareness to other parts of life — even the hard to deal with aspects such as fighting cancer. The junior varsity Spartans took the words “Fight Back” to heart in their game. Erasing a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter to give the Lady Vikings all they could handle before ultimately losing 53-46. The highlight on the floor for the Spartans came in the freshmen game as Red Bluff knocked off Pleasant Valley 41-33 to stay undefeated in league play. The Spartans took the Vikings out of their game offensively, forcing 30 turnovers and won the rebounding bat- tle. The Pink Out helped generate large crowds and there was buzz about the night becoming an annual event. BOYS HOOPS Liberty Christian 58 Mercy 39 The Warriors played one of their best defensive games of the season, but just couldn’t score enough in a 58-39 loss to Liberty Christian, Tuesday.
