Lassen View Elementary SERRF has been busy lately. During November and December, students had Jeff Phelps, golf pro from Wilcox Oaks Golf Club, come to the site to teach them golf. Each student had the opportunity to get six half-hour lessons. Students learned how to putt, proper techniques of holding the club, and most importantly, how to swing. SERRF tees off Courtesy photo As a follow up to a two-week unit on volcanoes, students in Mr. Gonzales' class at Jackson Heights watched a demonstration of volcano eruptions and then celebrated with the eruption of their own soda bottle volcanoes. Over the course of the two weeks, the students learned about the four different kinds of volcanoes, and drew volcano cross-sections, showing the magma chambers, vents, ash clouds, and lava flows. They also explored different kinds of volcanic rock. In the process, a lot of new vocabulary was learned and it was a great deal of fun.
