Patrick Ball (wirestrung harp and spoken word), Lisa Lynne (Irish bouzouki, Celtic harp and mandolin) and Aryeh Frankfurter (Swedish nyckelharpa, cittern and Celtic harp) take you on a joyous, dramatic musical journey deep into the myths, legends and history of the Celtic Harp. Ball is one of the premier Celtic harp players in the world and a captivating spoken word artist. He has recorded nine instrumental and four spoken word albums which have sold well over a half million copies internationally, winning national awards in both the music and spoken word categories. Ball's critically acclaimed concerts and solo theatrical productions have toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Ireland, Scotland and England. His passion for the oral tradition of Irish storytelling and his love of the wire-strung Celtic Harp have made Ball one of the most beloved performers in folk music today Lynne is a multi-instrumentalist and performer who has gained worldwide recognition for her original music featuring the Celtic Harp. She is widely acclaimed for REDDING – The 2014 Shasta College spring play directed by Ken Hill will be the smash Broadway comedy, "You Can't Take It With You." Open auditions will be held 7-9 p.m. Jan. 21-23 in Room 638, and Jan. 27-29 on the Shasta College Stage. Auditions are open to the community, and cast members earn transferable college credits. Monster concert to feature Disney favorites composing memorable and heartwarming melodies on the Windham Hiill/Sony music labels that have repeatedly placed in the Top 10 & Top 20 on the Billboard New Age music charts. Lisa tours year round performing at large US festivals and performing art centers. Lynne's numerous television and national radio appearances include NBC, CNN, and Fox News Atlanta. Her music is heard throughout the award winning PBS special Alone in the Wilderness, as well as soundtracks for commercial television and independent films. Lynne is the founder and director of "Harps for Hearts" an innovative music program that places live music and musicians in several California hospitals, including City of Hope National Cancer Center and several Kaiser Permanente locations. In addition, Lynne has received multiple grants and media recognition for her groundbreaking "Hands-on-Harps" interactive programs. This program brings harps to patients and families and teaches them to play. Frankfurter went from virtuosic progressive rock violin to intricate Swedish folk and Celtic music. He began with classical violin at the age of three and went on to explore various ethnic and international musical genres. Frankfurter taught himself to play a variety of bowed and plucked instruments and, most recently, the rare Swedish Nyckelharpa. His uncommon approach to the Celtic harp and folk harp repertoire and his many critically and commer- cially successful albums have established him as a musician, recording and performance artist of extraordinary talent. In addition to his career as a Celtic harper, Frankfurter has explored a wide range of musical styles utilizing all his multi-instrumental capabilities. He has collaborated with a wide variety of musicians and music producers from the progressive rock and roll band with Azigza, Medieval Sephardic Musician Lauren Pomerantz, modern Rai singer MC Rai, the psychedelic space-rock performance artist Gilli Smythe, 'Tribal Trance Druidic Dance' music of Land of the Blind, the harp popjazz stylings of Verlene Shermer to the Hip Hop/Rap albums produced by Million Dollar Dream. Call to landscape painters The National Park Service, in conjunction with the Friends of Whiskeytown and San Francisco's de Young Museum of Fine Arts, is sponsoring our eleventh year of offering an Artist-in-Residence Program. The National Park Service manages the program and offers a rustic two bedroom cabin tucked in the forest of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area for Auditions set for comedy selected artist to use as a studio and base camp. The program only accepts established professional artists with a history of exhibiting work. The 2014 program emphasis is on landscape Plein Air painting, but is open to candidates offering abstract, impressionism, and sculpture as well. Selected artists are scheduled through the spring, summer and fall to stay at the cabin from one to three week stays. In return, the artists must donate one painting that was created at Whiskeytown during their stay. The donated art becomes part of the National Park Service's art collection at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Artist must supply their own meals and find their own transportation to Whiskeytown; however, there is no charge for rent or utilities while staying at the cabin. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is a 42,000 acre forested park with a large lake in a mountain setting, with four waterfalls, and peaks more than 6,000 feet high. Over the past 10 years, the park has hosted artists who have come from all over the United States. Each applicant is asked to submit a resume and exhibition record; a statement of intent for the residency; a sample CD with 5 to 8 images of their work and a Xerox copy and preferred residency dates. Applications will be juried by Emma Acker, assistant curator for American Art at San Francisco's de Young Museum of Fine Art. Applications will be accepted until Feb. 28. Artists will be notified by the end of March whether or not they have been accepted. The performance is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at Neighborhood Church Dome, 2801 Notre Dame Blvd. in Chico. With 16 to 48 students of all levels, grades 1-12, on stage following a conductor, the concert is the ultimate team sport for piano. This unique group experience reduces the typical fear of performance, provides interaction with peers of similar interest, and allows students to perform on a big stage experiencing the thrill of lights in their eyes and applause in their ears. The students play with confidence, energy and character to music designed for multiple pianos. It takes an organized, year-round staff one-year to plan the 1 1/2-hour program. The staff is Dustin Breshears, producer and MTAC president, Dr. Allan Miller, conductor, Marci Pittman, music director and computer services, Mindy McPherson, student services, Becky Snow, student services and Alicia Glatz, treasurer and computer services. Miller recently retired from teaching instrumental music in California since 1972. A sought after guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator, he has studied conducting in Europe and the United States and has conducted both the North State Junior Honor Band and the North State High School Honor Orchestra. This monster is created every year with the collaboration of piano students of about 30 local piano teachers, the Butte County Branch of the Music Teacher's Association of California, CSU, Chico, and generous donations from the community. Lonestar A 20-year anniversary is cause for celebration, and Lonestar is marking this career milestone in more ways than one. Reunited with original lead singer Richie McDonald, the multi-platinum country music quartet is working hard on a brand new album and embarking on an extensive anniversary tour. Known for merging their country roots with strong melodies and rich vocals, Lonestar has sold over ten million album albums since their 1995 debut and achieved 10 No. 1 country hits including "No News," "Come Crying To Me," and their crossover smash "Amazed."
