8A – Daily News – Tuesday, January 25, 2011 BULL & GELDING SALE Looking back at 2010 The Bull & Gelding Sale is get- ting back in full swing with just as many — if not more — animals, cosigners and buyers going through the gates of the Tehama County Fairground over the next few days. Total sales in 2010 were up over the previous year, and it’s a trend that bull sales mangers want to see continue to go up with this year’s sales. In 2010, a field of over 300 bulls, 153 horses, 5 mules and 20 dogs were brought to the fair- ground in hopes of being sold. Feeder and replacement stock females were sold through live Internet feed. Not all of the ani- mals were auctioned off. Before being sold each animal is expected to pass to a round of conformation and other tests. Successful bulls, horses and dogs went on to make big bucks for their cosigners. These are the numbers to beat from last year. Bulls In 2010, 269 bulls were sold at an average price of $2,650.37. The total sale was $710,300. The top- selling bull sold for $5,400. Benefit bull The Water for Life benefit bull sold for $4,000. Horses All together, 108 horses were sold at an average price of $5,150. 46. The total sale was $56,250. The top-selling gelding was $20,000. Mules Four mules were sold at an average price of $5,075. The top mule was consigned for $7,500. The total sale was $20,300. Dogs Fourteen dogs were sold at an average price of $4,483. The top selling dog was a tie between two dogs each at $10,500. This year, a pool of 394 bulls, 113 geldings and 20 dogs are expected to go through the rigors of shifting and conformation exams to be auctioned off to buy- ers who are coming from all over. 2011 Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale Schedule The Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale runs today through Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Tehama District Fairground.
