Wednesday, January 1, 2014 – Daily News 3A Community people&events Favorite Foods entries due soon CattleWomen: Beef tips Golden Mushroom Beef Tips This recipe for Golden Mushroom Beef Tips over Noodles is from June 28, 2000 Sacramento Bee. A person was looking for a recipe for the long-ago standard blue plate special of sirloin tips over noodles. The recipe was from a mother-in-law who got the recipe from a diner in Washington, DC years ago. Ingredients 2 pounds beef cut into 1-inch cubes 1/4 cup butter 2 cans condensed golden mushroom soup 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion 3/4 cup sherry 1 medium clove garlic, minced 1/2 cup water 1 pound broad egg noodles, dry Favorite Foods Day entries are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3. This event is open to 4-H members of all ages; members need not be enrolled in a food or nutrition project to enter. Adults may also participate by entering a pork dish. Favorite Foods Day will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Paskenta Hall in Paskenta. Favorite Foods Day participants will plan a menu featuring their favorite food as an item, selecting a theme and preparing their food and a table setting for one. Adult entries will include only the pork dish and recipe card. Entries will be judged on appearance, the color, texture and nutritional value of the menu, the appropriateness and arrangement of the table setting and the quality of the prepared favorite food. All entrants should review the Favorite Foods Day Premium Book prior to entering and prior to the event for important instructions. Event entry is free; entry forms and Premium Books are available online at http://cetehama.ucanr.edu/4-H_Program/4H_Events/ or at the 4-H office at 1754 Walnut St. in Red Bluff. No late entries will be accepted. PATH shelter schedule The PATH Winter Shelter for homeless people in the community will rotate through several area churches starting Nov. 1 and running through April 30. The shelter will open at 5 p.m. and close at 8 a.m. the following morning. No pets are allowed. Robinson Now Faces Another Liquor Charge Officers from the sheriff's office here spoiled a New Year's party for Ross C. Robinson, colored, formerly of Sacramento, at one time a barber at Tehama and more recently proprietor of a service station on the east side state highway between Dairyville and los Molinos. The officers said they found a quart body full of jackass brandy in the station. They quoted Robinson as admitting he was on the point of treating friends to the liquor when the deputy sheriffs unexpectedly appeared on the scene. — Jan. 1, 1924 Directions 1. In a skillet, brown the beef in butter. Add remaining ingredients, except noodles. Cover and cook over low heat for 2 hours or until meat is tender. Stir occasionally. 2. While beef is cooking, prepare noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside. When meat is done, serve over cooked noodles. Preparation time 10 minutes Cooking time: 2 1/4 hours Serves: 6 Police reports The following information is compiled from Red Bluff Police Department, Tehama County Sheriff 's Department, Corning Police Department and California Highway Patrol. Arrests • Garrett Roy Cone, 31 and Anthony Clayton Flippula, 38, both of Corning were arrested on the 3000 block of State Route 99W for felony receiving known stolen property. Bail for each was $15,000. • Norman H Cowdrey aka Dennis Michael Chilson and Norman Chilson, 47, Corning was arrested on the 2000 block of Donnovan Avenue on outstanding charges of felony second degree burglary, grand theft, receiving known stolen property and a parole violation. Bail was $80,000. Burglary • California Almond Packers reported someone broke into a shop building sometime Sunday night. A chainsaw and quadrunner were taken. Vic Woolery will be cooking prime rib for the cattlemen's winter dinner, 6 p.m. Saturday at the fairgrounds. Presale tickets are $25, and at the door will be $30. The public is invited to enjoy a delicious beef dinner and bid at the TCCA/TCCW ag-scholarship auction. • A vehicle on Ascolano Court was broken into. A cup of change, binoculars and garage door opener were taken. • A vehicle was broken into on Dolla Court. SECRET WITNESS 529-1268 A program of Tehama County Neighborhood Watch Program, Inc. Theft • A woman reported her purse was stolen from her unlocked vehicle parked at the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall on Hoag Road Monday morning. The suspect then used a card to make a $900 withdrawal at the Bank of America in Corning. • Someone on 5th Avenue in Corning reported the theft of three Amazon packages on Christmas Eve. • A purse was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in front of the laundry mat on Mobile Drive.
