More often than you might think, something happens in the business of publishing a community daily that makes me glad I chose newspapering as a career more than 40 years ago. Sometimes such an event, conversation or observation confirms my faith in the "better angels of our nature," often with a genuine surprise. This time the surprise offered a window to the big heart of a local business manager. His was one of the 49 local businesses that agreed to sponsor a classroom of local students to produce drawings advertising his company as part of the Daily News' annual "Through a Child's Eyes" project. As many local teachers had agreed to make a class project of designing ads for local businesses. This particularly generous business manager volunteered to sponsor four classrooms of student ad artists. Fast forward a few weeks to when all the art had been produced by students and submitted by teachers to the Daily News' advertising department. The next step was for our two advertising representatives to take the artwork out to the sponsoring businesses. The sponsors were to select what they thought to be the best artwork produced by "their" assigned classroom. 1D Local Calendar Submit calendar items clerk@redbluffdailynews.com. to P .O. The problem is that women see planning for retirement as optional -something that can be put off until later because right now there are chil- dren to raise, homes to furnish, careers to nurture and bills to pay. There never seems to be enough time to do it all so we scuttle retirement planning under the rug to deal with later. Well, guess what? It's time! We have to start this conversation. We must stop procrastinating long enough to take care of our own future planning before we take care of everyone else around us.
