Open Range Winter Cattle Herder
5 Open Range Winter Cattle Herders wanted. Performs the
following tasks almost exclusively out on desert range to protect pregnant cows from harsh winter conditions: trail groups
of pregnant cows to areas designated by rancher using winter
trailing methods to avoid undue stress on cows; prevent hypothermia/abortion/death; move cows at a pace/distance sufficient to ensure they receive ample water/forage during daylight hrs to arrive at natural shelters by nightfall to protect cows
during blizzards/high winds/extreme cold, ride unmarked
perimeters of open range area designated by rancher. Help
rancher with supplemental feeding (when weather precludes
use of range forage). Maintain & set up camp & supply wagons appropriately. Must be able to ride & handle horses in the
movement of livestock in the open range while assuring the
safety of the worker, co-workers, livestock, & horses.
Employee must be willing to perform tasks capably & efficiently without close supervision, & live & work singly or in
small groups of workers in isolated areas for extended periods
of time. The job may entail working with & around farm
machinery such as tractors & ATVs for feeding purposes & the
movement of livestock, periodically. Live in isolated mobile
camps/ housing principally on range. On call 24 hrs/day, 7
days/week. Work tools, supplies, equipment provided w/out
cost to worker. Employment for 3⁄4 of work contract guaranteed. Transportation & subsistence expenses to worksite provided by employer, 6 months experience (exp.) in above duties
req'd & references req'd to verify exp. ( if exp. has not been in
immediate preceding 12 months, up to 2 references req'd.).
Must be physically able to perform above job duties.
Employer: Vermillion Ranch Limited Partnership.
Location: principally on range land south of Rock Springs, WY,
extreme NW CO & NE corner of UT. 5 job openings;
positions are temporary from 12/01/2013 – 03/30/2014.
Wages: $1,200/month plus room and board.
