As a recent example of the positive aspects of OHV use within our County, the first Jeep Jamboree USA event was held in La Paz County giving our local economy a much needed boost. Numerous, diverse and connective trails are absolutely essential to attract and maintain such events in La Paz County. Finally, the Board of Supervisors would like to convey the potential negative impact on the local economies and tourism resulting from any proposed decisions that would result in substantial closings of existing routes with the BLM planning area. With over 4,500 square miles of sparsely developed land and approximately 5% of privately owned land; La Paz County's property tax base is extremely anemic. Clearly, tourism is the life's blood of the County with OHV recreation being a large, increasing factor. Of the fifteen counties within the State of Arizona, La Paz County ranks very low in per capita income levels. Any negative disruption of the County's recreation/ tourism economy can drastically affect the full-time population, which constitutes a meager 20,000+ population including approximately 8,000 Native Americans in the Colorado River Indian Tribe. This Board appreciates your time and work involved with the TMP, and requests that additional time is given to the public to adequately study the December 18, 2013 information provided to them. As La Paz County, we intend on being intimately involved in the entire process as a coordinating agency in order to ensure that a fair and justifiable decision-making process is accomplished.
