PWC's LED Seasonal Light Incentive Program The holiday season is upon us and many have begun to decorate their homes with indoor/outdoor lights. Most lights in retail stores sell LED (light emitting diode) decorative lights in addition to incandescent lights. LED lights are eyecatching because they create the boldest, brightest seasonal displays. They also save money because they use 90% less energy to illuminate and are constructed of more durable wear-resistant materials. The bulbs do not chip, break or fade and can burn continuously from 50,000 to 100,000 hours (a conventional bulb will only illuminate around 1,500 hours). The incentive bill credit is available now and applications will be accepted through January 15, 2014. All purchase receipts must be dated by December 24, 2013. No more than 5 strands per account holder will be accepted and the total incentive will not exceed $40 per account holder. Visit PWC's website for more information about this limited time incentive program, including FAQs and the Seasonal Light Incentive Program application. PWC Wishes You a Safe and Happy Holiday Season PWC wants you to have a safe and happy holiday and encourages you to keep these safety tips in mind while decorating for the holidays: Make sure all lights and decorations have the UL seal – and be sure any thing electrical put outdoors is labeled for outdoor use Plug outdoor decorations into outlets protected by Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs) to prevent shock Don't handle lights while they're plugged in Don't string too many lights together or overload sockets and use a surge protector Inspect cords; don't use anything that's frayed or damaged. Don't run extension cords in traffic paths or over metal Keep live trees watered because dry trees can be fire hazards Make sure lights aren't touching paper or metal Keep electrical decorations away from water When hanging outdoor decorations, keep ladders away from power lines. Always unplug lights/ electrical decorations when you leave home or go to bed. Consider using an automatic timer to ensure that lights are not left on by mistake Season's Greetings from PWC PWC Offices will be closed December 24 & 25, and will re-open on Thursday, December 26. PWC will observe the New Year's Holiday on Wednesday, January 1 and re-open on January 2. We would like to extend a special thank you to our dedicated employees who will be working during the holidays to keep your power and water flowing and responding to emergencies so that we can all enjoy the holiday. Don't Toss Your Tree - Recycle It! The tree you've enjoyed during the holiday season can help forever "green" the Cape Fear Botanical Garden at "Grinding of Greens!" For 20 years PWC, the City of Fayetteville, and Duke Energy Progress have partnered to recycle trees as mulch for the Garden's beds and paths. If you live in the City, simply put your tree out for pick-up by the morning of January 6. Or, drop your tree off at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden any time before 9am on Saturday, January 11. Trees will be turned into mulch that morning so be sure to get there early! Save the D ate: 20th A Grind nnual ing of Green the s Janu ary 1 1 8:30a , 2014 .m.
