Saturday, January 8, 2011 – Daily News – 5A Religion Faith&Worship Church news Episcopal Bishop visits RB On Sunday, Jan. 9, The Rt. Rev. Barry Beisner, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North- ern California, will preside and preach at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Red Bluff. All are welcome to attend the Holy Communion at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s, 510 Jefferson St. Mem- bers from St. Peter’s and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Corning, will also be confirmed during this worship service. Appetizers and desserts will be Who would you like to be? Christians are God’s Masterpiece. served following worship in the Parish Hall for informal conversa- tion with the Bishop. Beisner was elected the 11th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California in 2006. Born in Dayton, Ohio, he graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973. He received the Master of Divinity degree from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in 1978, the Master of Sacred Theology degree from the General Theological Seminary in 1994, and the degree of Doctor of Divinity from the Gener- al Theological Seminary in 2007. For more information call St. Peter’s at 527-5205 or stpeters@sbcglobal.net. Beisner Korean youth choir to sing First Southern Baptist Church of Red Bluff, 585 Kimball Road, will be hosting a youth choir from South Korea at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 16. The 40-minute performance will be in English and Korean. Missionaries to India to be at Abundant Life Fellowship Tim and Rhonda Taylor, missionaries to India, will be the morning speakers at Abundant Life Fellowship in Red Bluff at the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, Jan. 9. They have been working in India for the past three years. Prior to that they ministered in Bolivia for 10 years. Tim Taylor just returned from Bolivia where he visited the works they started there. Their work was in the Alto Plano area near Lake Titica- ca, bordering Peru. He will be sharing about the work still continuing in Bolivia and the new work they have started in India. Televangelists escape penalty NEW YORK (AP) — An Iowa senator’s high-profile investigation of televangelists is wrapping up after more than three years with no penalties for pastors who refused to cooperate and no definitive findings of wrongdoing. The report that Sen. Chuck Grassley released Thursday raises questions about personal use of church-owned air- planes and credit cards by pastors and their families. But the senator draws no specific conclusions about whether the ministries violated tax rules on spending. Two of the targeted televangelists — Joyce Meyer and Benny Hinn — made changes in how they operate their ministries in response to the inquiry. But four of the ministries said they comply with IRS rules and refused to provide information. "For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago," as he says in Eph- esians 2:10. So, on a personal level, we can say: "I am God’s master- piece." He designed the universe as His creation. He designed us as His new creation too. How awesome! Why the emphasis on this truth? While there are some people who are totally narcissistic, most of us have things that we do not like about our- selves. We evaluate ourselves harshly. We may consider ourselves too short, too tall, too thin, too fat, not attractive enough, compared to others lacking good communication skills, not as intelligent as most people, not talent- ed, and simply not up to par with soci- ety. Many of us rate our self worth on job performance, or our car and the type of home we live in. Many people constantly compare themselves to sib- lings or friends. Past mistakes, past hurtful relationships, and negative family ties often load our mind with sorrow and grief. In all honesty, how do you rate yourself? Have you ever thought about your beauty, in God’s eyes? After all, He created you as His mas- terpiece! And, if you have messed up His masterpiece, (like we all do) you can simply confess your sins, repent, and He forgives you and cleans you up immediately. The promise is, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 NKJ). There is no need for self-condemnation. We should not receive condemnation from other peo- ple’s opinions of us either. It is vital though that we are living our Christian life in obedience to the Word, for God does not bless our excuses. Check out Donald Lund, born on July 28, 1922, passed away Jan. 3 at First Christian Church in Corning. Lund served 23 years as the church’s organist. The past 13 months he lived at Oakmont Retirement Home in Chico, but attended weekly service and activi- ties in Corning. He was with his church family on Christmas Eve, for both the Santa Brunch as well as the Christmas Eve Worship at noon that day. Romans 8:1 for another related promise that sets you free. God’s Word is pulsat- ing truth, from God’s own heart. The Word is alive and transforms our life into a work of art. His promises form the divine nature of God within us. He says, "Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promis- es, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust," in 2 Peter 1:2-4. The Holy Spirit invites us to partake of the goodness of God, as we receive truth and reject falsehood. Scripture tells us, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus," in Philippians 2:5. The gospel brings us good news. Our worth is endless to God. He val- ues each of us. This applies to all of God’s creation, for He desires that everyone be saved. "All of us have strayed away. We have left God’s path to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on Him {Jesus} all of our sins., " Isaiah 53:6 tells us. It may be hard to understand such love, yet when Jesus gave up His life on the cross, He did it willingly. He took our sins upon himself so that we could be washed clean by His blood, and be forgiven. You and God know your personal relationship with Jesus. If you haven’t Patricia Martin GodTalk given your life to Jesus yet, today is the best time for your decision. The Bible tells us in Acts 2:21, "But, everyone who calls on the LORD will be saved." Salvation is a free gift, not something we can earn through good works. Good works should always come as a result of salvation, but no person can buy their way into heaven. "God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God." God says this Himself in Ephesians 2:8. The door is not shut, for Jesus Christ is waiting for anyone who is outside of Christ, to enter into eternal life. He assures us, "Behold I stand at the door and knock. If any- one hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him and he with Me," in Revela- tion 3:20 NKJ. Who do you want to be? You can become God’s Master- piece. Just open your heart and invite Him in now. He is waiting. As a Christian we can hold our head high and keep a smile on our face, for we are God’s Masterpiece. Patricia Martin is a missionary/evangelist and a Recognized Ministry with the Assemblies of God. She is the founder of God's Precious Jewels, Inc., a ministry to Native American children and their families. The ministry began in 2000, and has provided thousands of free Bibles and other Gospel literature in California, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho and South Dakota. Longtime church organist passes way in Corning at 88 He was honorably dis- charged from the Army in 1946 and the Air Force in 1951 and will be interned at Igo Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11. Memorials can be made out to First Christian Church, Corning, with "Pastor's Fund" in memo line Donations will help to continue the music program he so loved.
