alpha tau omega at iowa state university Tau talk Class & Decade Challenge Launched to Raise Funds for Campaign O Rally with Your Brothers Today Fall 2013 ur Gamma Upsilon Chapter has played a prominent role at Iowa State for over 105 years. We know that all of you want to see Gamma Upsilon continue to be highly competitive on campus in regard to scholarship, leadership, and of course in brotherhood. We have an urgent need to continue the excellence that each of you have helped to build over the past 70 years. We're trying not to be too dramatic; however, it's time for us to provide an updated foundation for Gamma Upsilon Chapter's future at Iowa State University. Campaign Status At-a-Glance The dorms and other fraternities have changed the model; they are offering a living experience with a host of amenities that meet the needs and demands of the 2014 college student. Besides providing suites, flat-panel TV, WiFi, computers, private sleeping quarters, and air conditioning throughout, we also need to update the dining room, refurbish the kitchen, and properly finish the basement area with the design and amenities required to capture the attention of the top students and leaders. This was not accomplished when we built the new house in the early 1990s. The building is sound, but the interior has taken a hit; it's dated and beat up, thus, it's time to get this project launched. As of November 30, 2013 $653,647 Total Commitments $1.25 Million Goal $596,353 Still Needed 83 Contributors 928 Alumni (Pledge Classes 1946-2015) Our campaign, Preserving Our Past, Foundation for the Future, was designed to offer young men the ATW–Gamma Upsilon experience for growth and development that we had as undergraduates. The pledges and funds received to date and in the future will be used to substantially improve, remodel, and upgrade the building, help underwrite the presence of a full time house director in the facility, and strengthen the scholarship endowments. This semester we had the largest number of young men qualify for scholarships since the program began. We have been impressed by the response from the Gamma Upsilon brothers to date; we have secured more than $653,000. Thank you so much to the Taus who have contributed to date. We would like to offer a special "shout-out" to the younger alumni, actives and pledges of the 2007-2013 classes, as 27 young Taus have contributed a total of $38,500 to the remodel and scholarship project! Unfortunately, we are only a little over halfway there. Brothers, we need another $598,353 pledged to get this project launched. I am hoping that we can raise $400,000 by the end of February 2014 and cross the finish line with another $198,353 or more pledged by June 1, 2014, so that we can get the remodel started and completed by the start of the 2014 school year. This is going to take $2,500, $5,000, $10,000, $25,000, and $50,000 pledges. Why not a Blackfeet Society donor level of $100,000 - $249,999? We currently have no donors at this level. Of course, all levels of pledges are welcome and appreciated greatly. We understand you have to stay in line with your budget and financial plans, however, please pledge as much as is feasible, as soon as possible, so that we can get this remodel and scholarship program completed! These payments can be spread out over 3-5 years and, depending upon the size, longer terms are possible. Also, the larger pledges can be tax deductible; we can only allocate a certain amount of the project to educational purposes to meet IRS guidelines. (Continued on page 2) Where Does Your Pledge Class and Decade Rank? I n the spirit of ATW's love of competition, now is the time to join your initiation class in the Class Challenge. Help your class reach 100% participation. Your participation will not only give your class bragging rights, it will also help Gamma Upsilon reach our campaign goal. If you have not joined those who have already contributed to the campaign, please do so now by returning the enclosed pledge card. We are still looking for participation from the classes of 1940-45, 1948, 1951, 1956, 1958-62, 1965-70, 1972, 1979-88, 1992, 1994, 2001, 2005, 2006, and 2008. n n n n n io io io io io at at at at at ip ip ip ip ip ic ic ic ic tic rt rt rt rt s s s ar s s s s s s s s s s s s P Pa Pa Pa Pa la la la ift ift ift ift ift la la C C C % G G C G C G G % % % % 1946 $75 13% 1955 $2,000 7% 1974 $300,000 42% 1991 $200 5% 2000 $2,000 4% 1947 $2,000 14% 1957 $10,000 8% 1975 $30,000 7% 1993 $5,000 4% 2002 $20,000 10% 1949 $35,000 17% 1950s $106,762 8% 1977 $1,000 6% 1995 $7,500 6% 2003 $5,000 9% 1940s $37,075 5% 1963 $20 9% 1978 $25,000 6% 1996 $2,500 5% 2004 $5,000 9% 1950 $24,762 19% 1964 $25,000 14% 1970s $367,000 8% 1997 $5,000 6% 2007 $3,500 11% 1952 $51,000 18% 1960s $25,020 2% 1989 $250 8% 1998 $12,540 11% 2009 $3,000 60% 1953 $2,500 8% 1971 $5,000 6% 1980s $250 1% 1999 $5,000 6% 2000s $38,500 8% 1954 $16,500 21% 1973 $6,000 17% 1990 $1,100 7% 1990s $38,840 5%
