We have record enrollment this fall including a record new student enrollment, a record number of students residing on campus, a record number of international students and a record number of Presidential Scholars. As president of Methodist University, I have the privilege of getting to know our students on a first-name basis. They come to MU from all parts of MULogo11_V1CK (.eps, .tif, have the world and walks of life. I've said many times, "We .gif): the best students in America, if not the world!" As I listen to the comments made by students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni and community members, I am hearing so many positive things about our university and the great strides we are making — not only in numbers, but more importantly in the continuous improvement of our programs and facilities. The "Culture of Excellence" is permeating our campus and is noticed by everyone. School of Health Sciences Our School of Health Sciences is expanding to prepare even more students for diverse careers as health care professionals. This year, we welcomed Dr. Todd Telemeco as the director of our proposed Doctor of Physical Therapy Program and Dr. Larry Goins as the director of our Nursing Program. The School of Health Sciences includes graduate and undergraduate degrees within various health care related fields including Physician Assistant Studies, Nursing, Health Care Administration, Athletic Training and Applied Exercise Science. The new Health Sciences Building will provide 34,000 square feet of academic program expansion space and will house the proposed Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy programs currently in the planning stages. MULogo11_V4CW (.eps, .gif): Winter Commencement We will celebrate Winter Commencement the weekend of Dec. 13 and 14. Our Commencement speaker this year is Charles Holmes, senior managing director for Global Capital Markets at Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. in New York City. He is a native of Fayetteville and has extensive experience with global issues. He will offer a unique perspective to our graduates. During Commencement, we will also award the University Medallion to Dot Wyatt, a Fayetteville leader and great friend to the University. This year's Baccalaureate speaker is the Rev. David Blackman, the new senior pastor at Hay Street United Methodist Church. Glass Exhibit There's still time to see the studio glass exhibit, "Igneous Expressions," at the David McCune International Art Gallery at Methodist University, on display through Dec. 12. It is an amazing exhibit that has received statewide media coverage and is attracting visitors from throughout North Carolina. Coming up next will be the Picasso ceramics exhibit opening Feb. 13. Visit davidmccunegallery.org for more information. I've said many times, "I have the best job in America, the best students in America, and we live in the best community in America!" On behalf of Methodist University, our students, faculty and staff, we wish you and your family Happy Holidays. We DR. BEN HANCOCK. President of know 2014 will be our best Methodist University.
