This 4-page listing of events taking place in our area throughout the year is distributed to visitors, local residents, organizations, media and publications throughout the entire state. You can help by supplying the Chamber with any information regarding date, location, contact information, etc., of any major or traditional events that will take place in Tehama County next year. In addition to major events like the Red Bluff Round Up in April, the calendar lists other popular events such as the Farm City Night in November and the Relay for Life in May. Submission deadline is Dec. 15. *** Employment posters at the Chamber Office California employers and businesses are required to post updated employment posters at their places of employment. Please note that there are changes to the poster and all employers will need to have the 2014 poster in order to be compliant with the law. All employers and businesses are reminded that the 2014 employment poster, which contains all State and Federal employer notices, is available through the Red Bluff-Tehama County Chamber of Commerce office. The poster, which is required to be on display by every California employer, contains all required employer notices on one poster and includes a checklist to ensure poster is displayed according to law. The poster is produced by the State Chamber and made available to local chambers. Cost for the 2014 poster is $24.99 for paper and $36.99 laminated, plus tax. Caltrans offers help to small businesses REDDING – The California Department of Transportation District 2 is partnering with the Department of General Services and the Northeastern Small Business Development Center to provide important services to local area businesses. The Department of Gen- eral Services will be in Redding, 2990 Innsbruck Drive, 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Dec. 10, to speak on how to do business with the State of California and Caltrans. Those challenges include uncertainty caused by sluggish economic growth, as well as concerns regarding the cost of health care reform. Additionally, the journal cites the lack of access to capital for startup and expansion. How can small businesses overcome these challenges? Caltrans Small Business Liaison Becky Alexander recommends the following: • Speak with small business liaisons and support centers to learn more about state and federal programs. • Never doubt the importance of marketing. There's an abundance of free marketing opportunities available if you know where to look. • Make good use of chances to network with lenders, partners, resource providers, training centers, business clubs, and agencies who offer free services specifically for small businesses. • There's huge value in face-to-face contact with potential clients. Learn how to sell yourself, your products and services within a short amount of time. Local business owners are encouraged to attend and meet representatives to learn more about these topics. Main St. in Red Bluff as a new member. Phone (530) 527-0727. • Hometown Christmas – Saturday is Corning's Hometown Christmas and we hope you are planning to be a part of this festive day. Starting with a pancake breakfast at the Fire Department, 814 5th St. from 7-11 am, the Knights of Columbus are working with the Volunteer Fire Department to provide a delicious pancake breakfast. Proceeds go to the Boy Scouts. Craft and Food booths will be set up from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the old Corning Glass, 1111 Solano, (across from the Chamber office), where you can find some unique Christmas gifts, so plan to do some shopping. Kid's games and prizes will start at 11 a.m., next to the Chamber in the Mason's parking lot. The Art Exhibit will again be hosted by Edward Jones, 1401 Solano with local artist showing their work. This year the high school art students will be showing their work at H&R Block, 1315 Solano. From noon to 4 p.m. in front of the Chamber, there will be free carriage rides. Santa will arrive at 1 pm and photos with Santa will be offered across the street from the Chamber at Santa's Workshop 1:30-3 p.m. The highlight of the day will be the Hometown Christmas Lighted Parade beginning at 5:30 p.m. from Toomes Avenue to Third Street where a Tree Lighting ceremony will take place. So don't go home after the parade. The winners of the parade will be announced and Christmas carols will be led by a group from the high school choir. So come to the City Christmas Tree by the railroad tracks and join us for a short ceremony in the spirit of Christmas. • Christmas Mixer – AmericanWest Bank, formally PremierWest Bank, is hosting the Christmas Mixer next Thursday, Dec. 12, from 5:30-7:30 pm, at 1201 Solano St. Winners of the Lighted House Contest, Christmas Tree Lane, and winners of the Lighted Parade will be announced, as well as the 2013 Senior of the Year. Everyone is welcome. • Advent and Christmas Services – Tuesday Dec. 10 and 17, Mt. Olive Lutheran Church is having Advent Services with the theme What Child is This. They will also be having a Christmas Eve Celebration with Carols and Candles Dec. 24, 7 p.m. Christmas morning they will also have a service at 8:30 a.m. All are welcome. They are located at 341 E. Phone 824-5530. • Winter Crush - Families, foodies and anyone looking to experience and understand how olive oil is made is invited to join the Lucero family as they host the Second Annual Winter Crush, on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lucero Olive Oil Mill in Corning, California. Event-goers will enjoy the unique experience of witnessing the annual citrus crush by touring the mill and tasting the fresh olive oil being made right before their eyes. The event will also feature live music performances and a vendor market place highlighting local artisan producers, eateries and 10 local microbreweries. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to watch live cooking demonstrations hosted by four local chefs, one of whom will be Lucero Olive Oil's own Bobby Lucero — father of Lucero Olive Oil founder Dewey Lucero). There will also be a kid's zone that will include the following art stations: jewelry making, bag decorating, olive branch crowns and coloring. "The Winter Crush is a great community event that offers our customers the chance to not only witness the production of our citrus olive oil, but they can also sample the product and take some home that day," said Dewey Lucero, founder, Lucero Olive Oil, California's most highly awarded olive oil producer. "With a kid's zone, local restaurants and microbreweries, music and cooking demonstrations, our Winter Crush is a fun experience for the whole family." Lucero Olive Oil had a tremendous turn out for the Second Annual Winter Crush in 2012 and anticipates the attendance to double for this year's event. The third Annual Winter Crush is free to attend.
