Wilson GodTalk Taize prayer services offered St. Peter's Episcopal Church will host Taizé Prayer services every Sunday evening during Advent beginning Dec. 1. Welcoming worshippers from all denominations, prayer services will begin at 7 p.m. and offer a time of prayer, meditative music and silence in uniting Christians to prepare for the celebration of the birth of Christ. Taizé Prayer interweaves meditative prayer, readings of the Psalms and Scripture, simple repetitive songs and a time of silence. An opportunity for praise and thanksgiving, as well as a time to share sorrows and joys with God is provided during meditative prayer. The reading of the Psalms places all believers in a sense of communion together while reading of Scripture allows worshippers to discover God's heart through His word. Silence allows believers to quietly listen for God's message. Throughout the service, contemplative songs spiritually nourish the worshipper. A Holy Hour of Prayer with Angels will be offered at 5:45 p.m. prior to Taize Prayer on Sunday, Dec. 8, at Marsh Cottage next to St. Peter's sanctuary. Taize Prayer is cosponsored by the congregations of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church of Red Bluff and the Tehama County United Methodist Churches. St. Peter's Episcopal Church is located at 510 Jefferson St., on the corner of Jefferson and Elm, in Red Bluff. Additional details are available at 527-5205 or stpeters@sbcglobal.net. For more information about the Taize Community and Taize Prayer visit www.taize.fr. Crystal Cathedral to begin Catholic transformation GARDEN GROVE (AP) — The former Crystal Cathedral in Orange County is closing to the public as it begins a transformation into a Roman Catholic cathedral. The Los Angeles Times reports that the recently renamed Christ Cathedral will close Sunday for a $29 million restoration. It's scheduled to reopen in 2016. The landmark glass-sided church was built by the Rev. Robert H. Schuller and for decades was the home of his ''Hour of Power'' televangelist broadcasts. The property was sold to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange in 2010 after Crystal Cathedral Ministries declared bankruptcy. Church news? Church news may be submitted to clerk@redbluffdailynews.com.
