Chair speaks I tio Business sinessSpotlight Happy Holidays from Your Chamber of Commerce t’s hard to believe that the end of 2010 is almost upon us. As we close out the year and reach the holiday season, it’s tradi- t nal for people to give thanks to the people that are important to us or have had an impact on our lives over the last year. With that thought in mind, I would like to say thanks to the following people and organiza- tio t ns. T Tank you to the staff, the leadership, our members, and the hundreds of volunteers that make up the Fayetteville- Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce. Trough this very difficult On behalf of your Chamber of Commerce I would like to wish you a happy holiday season and a prosperous 2011. economic period Fayetteville and Cumberland County has found a way to grow in both real and relative terms due to all of their efforts. Tank you to the volunteers and leadership of our community’s non prof- its, especially organizations such as the United Way, Cumberland Commu- nity Foundation, and our local arts groups who work tirelessly every year to improve the quality of life in our community. Finally, to the men and women in our armed forces and their families whose efforts every day remind us that the freedom that we enjoy in this country is not free and who volunteer to protect our country and way of life. Chamber Launches Adopt-A-Soldier Program Te Fayetteville –Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce and its Military Affair’s Council will be launching its Fort Bragg Adopt-A-Soldier Program. Te program will invite all chamber members to “adopt a sol- dier” who is deployed by sending weekly letters and monthly packages. “With so many of our soldiers and airmen being deployed, this initiative sends a strong message that the Fayetteville community supports our mili- tary,” said Doug Peters, President, and CEO. “Over 1000 deployed sol- diers are presently signed up to participate. Tis initiative can have a far- reaching effect on chamber businesses and will mean a great deal to our deployed military personnel.” Small but much-needed items will be provided to a deployed military sol- dier. Examples of items to be shipped might include magazines, newspa- pers, books, hard candies, gum, chapstick, etc. A detailed list of acceptable items will be provided to you. Tink in terms of letters, e-mails or videos to our military telling them what’s going on at home. An important rela- tionship can be established between you and the military soldier.
