2A – Daily News – Tuesday, December 21, 2010 Community people&events Shasta-Trinity National Forest team earns regional honor award The Shasta-Trinity National Forest’s 2010 Safe- ty Focus Team was recognized by Regional Forester Randy Moore in an awards ceremony Nov. 30. The Fire and Aviation Management team devel- oped a safety campaign to be communicated to all forest employees on four safety focus topics: med- ical evacuation plans, tree felling procedures, per- forming tasks within qualifications and the dangers of distracted driving. development of posters, videos and an employee toolkit to facilitate safety discussions. The team members representing various func- tional areas wrote, produced and acted in the videos. The team was comprised of Richard Reposa, Susan Bissell, Christopher Graham, Lloyd Cruz, Mark Thibideau and J.D. Ligier. Arlen Cravens, Patrick Titus and Michael Cobbold were also recognized for their support to the team. “The products they produced facilitated a great chain of communication on safety issues through- out the forest,” said Forest Supervisor Sharon Hey- wood. “Our employees still discuss the videos. We think this open approach to safety will make us all more aware of what it means to work and live safe- ly.” Regional awards were selected from nomina- tions from the eighteen National Forests through- out California and the Regional office in Vallejo. “We are proud to pay special tribute to those who demonstrated outstanding professionalism, excellent customer service, and exemplary leader- ship in advancing the mission of the Forest Ser- vice,” Regional Forester Randy Moore said. “We congratulate not just our winners, but all of the nominees for a job well done. The Pacific South- west Region, the lands and the public are better for their contributions.” Highlights of the awards ceremony included a visit from Forest Service Chief Thomas Tidwell and keynote speaker Stedman Graham. When meat is done to your satis- faction, take roast out of the oven and place it on a carving board to rest for about 10 minutes before carving. Seasonal table decora- tions were delivered earlier that week by local Corning school children and the Girl Scouts of America arrived singing christmas carols and presenting hand made gifts to each senior attend- ing. Seniors were greeted at the door by Maywood Woman's Club and received decorated goodie bags of home made bread and jam prepared by members, while the Tehama Jammers sang a melody of Christmas Country style carols. The afternoon was topped off with a visit from Santa and the cheers of the crowd participating in the very popular Chinese Auc- tion where Senior Center members and local resi- dents donate items to be auctioned off.
