Alabama Beta Alumni Gather in Atlanta O n Friday, August 30, Atlanta-area Alabama Beta alumni met at The Bucket Shop Café for some pre-game festivities and to see old brothers while meeting brothers from other eras. The event was organized by the new Alabama Beta AVC Board and Atlanta alumnus Jonathan Worrell '70. Alumni in attendance were Jim Mock '81, Mickey Johnson '81, Sig Symms '69, Jim Ingram '80, Jonathan Worrell '70, Farrell Turner '78, Sam Sparks '71, Ted Lester '70, and David Stanley '73. Several brought their wives, which certainly enhanced the overall appearance of the group. Improved Alumni Communication A Top Priority The brothers were updated on recent Chapter activities and the status of efforts to get the Chapter back in a house of its own on the Alabama campus. Everyone agreed that the undergraduates are doing a remarkable job competing for awards and achieving recognition as a leading Greek organization at the University. The group was also updated on the AVC Board's efforts to improve alumni communication, starting with updating mailing lists and obtaining e-mail addresses for all Alabama Beta alumni. Mickey Johnson '81, Jonathan Worrell '70, Farrell Turner '78, Sig Symms '69, Jim Mock '81, and Jim Ingram '80 enjoy life in Atlanta. Multi-Generational Discussion From Members Since there were alumni from several eras present, there was considerable storytelling and sharing of fraternity experiences. Also, since the group met on the evening before the Alabama-Virginia Tech football game, there was a good deal of excitement about expectations for the 2013 football season. At the conclusion of the evening, it was agreed that the AVC Board would reach out to other Atlantaarea alumni and work toward having at least one alumni event in Atlanta each year. To our alumni, mark your calendars; Alabama plays West Virginia in next year's Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game. What a great time to get together again! Fraternally, Sam Sparks '71 AVC Board Vice President of Relations (205) 223-3963 / ssparks48@charter.net Jim Ingram '80, David Stanley '73, Sam Sparks '71, Ted Lester '70, Mickey Johnson '81, Farrell Turner '78, Jim Mock '81, Sig Symms '69, and Jonathan Worrell '70 reconnect and share memories of their time in Alabama Beta.
