Breakfast With Santa an Annual Tradition at Fascinate-U by STEPHANIE CRIDER With Christmas right around the corner, it seems safe to assume that many a young mind is focused on Santa Claus and what goodies he may be bringing on Dec. 25. Everyone is on their best behavior, minding their manners and helpful as ever, building their case for a spot on the “Nice” list. On Saturday, Dec. 18, Fascinate-U Children’s Museum is hosting Breakfast With Santa Claus. It’s one more chance to share the magic of the season with your favorite little one. It is a tradition that the museum has been a part of for the past eight or nine years, according to Fascinate-U Children’s Museum Marketing and Development Director Emily Polley, and something that local children look forward to with anticipation. An opportunity to score some face time with Santa doesn’t come around all that often, after all. “There are several families in the community that have made this a family tradition,” said Polley. “They start when their children are just babies and come. Mom and Dad eat breakfast with Santa and they have a family picture made. It is really adorable.” Other families come and bring Grandma and Grandpa with them and make it a special day for more than just mom and dad and junior. Families are seated together and can enjoy the menu of eggs, bacon, sausage and a full pancake bar that includes toppings like gummy bears, sprinkles and whipped cream. This all takes place upstairs in the Gilbert Theater, which is decked out in holiday style for their production of A Christmas Carol, adding to the feeling of Christmas cheer. Indulgence... Breakfast is served between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m., which gives everyone an hour to come in and take their time eating. After fi lling their tummies, the little ones get to have their picture taken with Santa. “It is so sweet to see the toddlers come in all dressed up in their argyle sweaters and fancy little dresses,” said Polley. “They are so cute and so excited to see Santa that some of them are literally shaking with anticipation. Seeing their excitement really is my favorite part of this event.” Every year a craft is included in the price of the ticket. Of course it is different every time, and Polley says that this year the theme is mittens. Stay and play in the museum afterwards and burn off that yummy breakfast. “We’ll stay until everyone has eaten, every picture with Santa has been taken and every craft has been completed,” Polley said. “We want to make this event as special as possible for the little ones.” Polley noted that the museum is open to the public at 10 a.m., just like any other Saturday. Reservations are required and they fi ll up fast. It costs $10 for members and $12 for nonmembers.
