PHI DELTA THETA FRATERNITY 5 During the weekend of September 20-22, more than 300 Phis from all eras, along with spouses, guests, and Phi Delt dignitaries, descended upon Ames to celebrate 100 years of brotherhood at Iowa Gamma. A collection of events during the weekend allowed attendees to reconnect with friends, visit the newly remodeled chapter house, learn about the state of the chapter, tour Iowa State and other Ames attractions, golf, and hear from many Phis about the chapter's successes over the years. The weekend was a tremendous success and will provide momentum as the chapter enters its second century of existence. Iowa Gamma Is Model Chapter (Continued from page 1) experience. Due to his position, he attends many chapter events across the country, and Iowa Gamma stood out. "I attend a lot of alumni events, and this was the finest alumni event I've ever been to. If every chapter in North America would model after them we would be in great shape." The centennial celebration and the chapter house renovation have provided alumni with great opportunities to reinvest in chapter activities. Alumni involvement is crucial to the success of the chapter. Through his leadership role, Chris has seen many chapters fail due to a lack of alumni support. He encourages alumni to become re-engaged in the Fraternity saying, "The reward of friendship is phenomenal." The work Iowa Gamma is doing to restore the chapter house is critical because the house will always be a "symbol and gathering place to share brotherhood. It is a focal point of chapter operations." Chris graduated in 1980 with a B.A. in finance and management from California State-Northridge and was a member of the California Zeta Chapter. Phi Delta Theta helped shape his personal and business life through challenges, experience, and the overall scope of being involved and working independently and with others toward a common good. Chris lives in Woodland Hills, California, with his wife, Claire, and two sons, Nicholas and Michael. He is an avid sports fan and especially enjoys Dodgers baseball.
