CUMBERLAND Watch Your Weight With Holiday Challenge There is a way to help prevent the weight gain that typically occurs during the holidays. You can enroll in the free Eat Smart, Move More – Maintain, Don't Gain Holiday Challenge, a campaign that encourages participants to maintain their weight during the holiday season. By joining the Holiday Challenge, which runs from Nov. 25 through Dec. 31, you will receive a free weekly e-Newsletter featuring healthy recipes, tips and information to help you make better choices. The campaign is part of Eat Smart, Move More North Carolina. The program's goal is to inform, empower and motivate you to be mindful of your diet and physical activity. To sign up, go to www.esmmweighless. com. County Collecting Donations For Food Drive The 21st annual Cumberland County Government holiday food drive is underway to help local families requesting assistance through the Salvation Army and Fayetteville Urban Ministry Christmas program. Through Dec. 6, bins will be placed at the Courthouse entrances and in other county buildings including the Department of Social Services, Public Health Department and Historic Courthouse. Members of the public and county employees are invited to donate canned goods and other non-perishable food items. Last year's food drive netted 4,500 pounds of donated items, which was 1,000 pounds more than collected in 2011. The items needed are canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats including tuna fish, boxes or sturdy bags of rice, pasta, grits and dried beans; peanut butter and jelly; and pasta sauces. Please do not donate food packaged in glass containers.
