Sales of entries were exciting and encouraging and expected to increase as collecting original western art is increasing. Entry fee is $50, with $20 refunded to the artist for each item sold. Commission of 20 percent will be charged on all sales. Divisions include open, painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, leatherwork, silverwork and working gear. Prizes will be given for first place, $700 and a bull sale vest, second place, $200 and vest, and third place, $100 and vest. Best of show will receive $1,000 and a vest and people's choice will receive a ribbon and vest. Entry deadline is Jan. 2, 2014. Unsold art may be picked up after 2 p.m. Feb. 1. Shasta Live! will also sponsor a student outreach performance of Locust Street Taxi as part of their Fine Arts Enrichment program in support of arts education in the Redding community. Established in 2000, 53 artists have performed for over 30,000 area students from 58 schools as part of this community service. Since their move to the Cascade Theatre in 2012, every outreach performance presented by Shasta Live! has filled the 900 seat venue to capacity. On Friday, Nov. 15 from 3-5 p.m. in Trinity 100, Rob Davidson will host "Looking Both Ways: Translation in the Literary & Visual Arts," a panel discussion with Pat Collentine, Peter Jodaitis, Susan Larsen and Peggy Shumaker. On Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 5-6:30 p.m. in Trinity 126, Wal-Hung Wong will give a talk explaining the thesis of the indeterminacy of translation. On Thursday, Dec. 5 from 5-6:30 p.m. in Trinity 126, Laura Nice will give a talk about the Northern Irish interest in Hellas during the Troubles in "'I Swim In Homor': Northern Irish Writers Since 1965 'Translate' Ancient Greek." Opera workshop concert REDDING – Shasta College's Division of Arts, Communications and Social Sciences announces a special concert of choral music and solos from the world of opera at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in the Shasta College Theatre. The concert will feature the top singers and students of the Opera Workshop. The men of the workshop will be singing "The Pilgrim's Chorus" from the Wagner opera "Tannhauser" under the direction of Robert Waterbury.
