T House Corporation Looks Ahead The leaves are falling and the weather is turning cool. Life on campus and at the Chapter House on Laramie Street can only be described as busy! After another fantastic new member recruitment, the chapter started a new school year at a fast pace and hasn't slowed down since. The House Corporation has also been busy finishing several jobs from the summer and working with chapter advisors and members to spruce up the Chapter House in preparation for our centennial celebration in 2015. We are happy to share news of the latest projects with you. sprucing up and refreshing June and July were packed with many accomplishments, ranging from the scheduled painting in the east wing to renovation of our housemother's living quarters. We are now on a schedule that will allow one large interior area of the house to be painted each year on a rotating basis. This summer we painted all of the bedrooms and the hallway on the second floor. We also did considerable paint touch-up work around the house, a necessity when there are more than 70 tenants moving in and out twice a year. In housemother Karen Robbins' apartment, the bathroom was updated and the ceilings, walls, and woodwork painted. Thank you for helping make this overdue project come to life! She is enjoying the freshened up spaces that she deserves. updates improve our home The recreation room received some new beautiful, decorative pillows. They give what was already a beautiful room a dash of color and panache. We finished the bathroom updates by replacing shower curtains with glass doors in the traditional areas of the house, which is helping to alleviate water damage. This has been a popular improvement among the ladies living in the house. Fall 2013 dining room furnishings Project A major project that is on the House Corporation's short wish list is refinishing the dining room tables and chairs. To the best of our knowledge, this furniture has been in use at the house since the dining room renovations in the 1960s. The pieces are of very good quality and still very strong structurally. They are worthy of being refinished. You may recall that the chair backs reflect the arch design of our east and west porticos (the west one is now the enclosed breakfast nook). Each of the chairs has an upholstered seat in tired blue vinyl. Eight large tables and 80 chairs will be a large but necessary undertaking. We have received a bid to have this work done locally for approximately $9,500. Our wish is to have this project finished within the next year in time for our centennial celebration in April 2015. We realize that it will not be possible without your help. If this is a project that you have a special interest in or if you have special memories of time spent in the Chapter House, help rescue a bit of Theta Iota tradition by supporting this endeavor. Contributing at least $100 will help totally refinish and reupholster a chair. Your contribution would help to beautify and preserve one of the loveliest aspects of the Chapter House. It's a great opportunity to share your love of Theta Iota. (Continued on page 2) Thank you for helping us turn our house into a home!
