Sigma Alpha Epsilon I Vanderbilt University 3 Chris Castellaw '96 Builds on Campaign Success by Giving Back Tennessee Nu Experience Impacted Career W hen Chris Castellaw '96 came to Vanderbilt University in the fall of 1992, he knew SAE brothers from his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. "I actually remember heading down to the house one night one from Kissam. After a couple of nights with the brothers, I knew Sigma Alpha Epsilon was for me," Chris said. "There was a certain sense of pride in becoming a member of Tennessee Nu. The house was certainly part of the allure, but for me, it really came down to quality of the members. This was all reiterated to me once becoming an active member." Chris encourages Tennessee Nu alumni to think back on their experiences and give to the campaign for the chapter. "We need to consider this campaign as something that we all own. If everyone participates, at a level they think is appropriate, we will be able to raise sufficient funds to complete the house renovation and allow for current and future members to share in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon experience at Vanderbilt. The bonds that I forged in my four years at 2500 Kensington Place are timeless. My commitment is really about securing the future of this chapter. I'm just paying it forward." Chris served as eminent archon, which helped him become closer with the chapter as well as gain overall qualities that would prepare him for a career. Reflecting on the experience, he says, "Being a leader taught me a great deal about people, leadership, and managing certain, and sometimes unfavorable, situations. However all these experiences contributed to personal and long-term growth for me that I still use today." After graduating with a degree in history, Chris began his career in the financial services sector in 1997 as a junior partner to a long-time financial advisor at the old Alex Brown, now Deutsche Bank. After many years at Deutsche Bank on the West Coast, he returned home to Atlanta in 2007 and now serves as senior vice president for investments at UBS Financial Services Inc. Peyton R. Dale '09 Chris stays in frequent contact with many of his Tennessee Nu brothers. "Rarely does a week go by without speaking with a brother or a month goes by without seeing one in person," he said. "I really try and reach out to connect with these guys. My experience has been that the longer you let these time periods go without speaking, it simply becomes easier to not pick up the phone. We had great times in college and it has truly been a blessing to rediscover those memories during this campaign." Chris and his wife, Elizabeth, have three children and reside in Atlanta. He spends the majority of his time on kid's sports fields, but enjoys playing golf and traveling in his spare time. You can contact Chris at chris.castellaw@ubs.com. Godfrey R. Parkerson '10 Sean T.
