The Tennessee Nu Review Sigma Alpha Epsilon I Vanderbilt University I Fall 2013 Preserving a Tradition of Excellence and Preserving the Future Campaign Surpasses $1.7 Million Parents and Undergraduate Members Give Back, Support Still Needed from Alumni W e are thrilled to announce that contributions to the Campaign for Tennessee Nu: Preserving a Tradition of Excellence and Preserving the Future have surpassed $1.7 million through generous donations from alumni, undergraduate brothers, and friends of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. As of October 29, $1,725,067 has been pledged and $1,415,978 has been collected. Much work has been done to the house so far. The sub-roof and roof have been replaced followed by the removal of the mold that was the catalyst for the university's closing of the house. The demolition of all worn and damaged areas is complete, and architectural plans have been submitted to the Davidson County Codes Department in Nashville for permitting the second and largest phase of the renovation. Commencing immediately, the second phase of the project will restore the chapter room and kitchen to accommodate the return of the meal program and bring the active members back to the house. Simultaneous with the renovation of these social areas that will provide the highest impact to the most actives, the major infrastructure components for the remainder of the chapter house will also be replaced—including but not limited to, the necessary structural and exterior repair, window replacement, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and life safety requirements. Ultimately, but only with the support of those who have yet to participate, a third and final phase of construction will commence to complete the balance of the house interiors, the officers' bedrooms, and the payment of the outstanding loans to the university that have accrued over the years. Throughout our campaign, we have had an overwhelming response from parents, undergraduates, and friends of the chapter, but we are lacking the support of Tennessee Nu alumni. Shockingly only 19% of our alumni have made pledges or contributions. That's only 304 of 1,607 living alumni. I sincerely believe that we can do better than that. I trust the friendships made and common thread of experiences provided by Sigma Alpha Epsilon deserve better. Thank you to all who have contributed. We still need to raise $774,933 to reach our goal and pass along to future generations the gift of the SAE experience at Vanderbilt. Gifts of all sizes are appreciated and I hope you will consider making your pledge or gift today. A pledge card and envelope are enclosed for your consideration.
