Alumni Update Chapter Eternal Duane L. Bailey '51 entered Our Mystic Shrine November 6, 2012. He was a resident of Casselberry, Fla. William S. Johnson '55 entered Our Mystic Shrine August 21, 2013. Bill enjoyed a 32‑year career with IBM, spending three years in Paris, France, and the later part of his employment in Washington, D.C. In 1988 President Ronald Reagan appointed him chairman of the Institute of American Indian Arts, where he was instrumental in securing and renovating the old post office building now used as the museum. Larry will be remembered as a mentor, copywriter, teacher, swimmer, scotch drinker, author, husband, producer, lyricist, father, and creative genius. He inspired everyone he met to think outside of these four connected lines. Larry is survived by his wife, Harriet, and five children. Alumni News John T. Bloch, DDS '57 travels quite extensively with his wife, Sharon, both within and outside the U.S. He has visited all seven continents. The couple will continue to travel while they each enjoy excellent health, as there are numerous countries and cultures they would like to experience. Crowell '57 officially retired from Western Michigan University in 2002, but continues to advise graduate students. He and his wife, Nancy, live in Kalamazoo, Mich., and have three children. He developed an inter‑modal shipping container system and won a contract with Department of Defense Homeland Security for the Alert Container. Brian also developed and beta tested a tracking system for general aviation and gained FAA test approval at the Kent State University Airport. Peter P. McKenzie '57 has been restoring and renovating old car interiors with custom upholstery since his retirement in 2012. He has received numerous military service awards and medals, including Legion of Merit, and is president of the local Rotary Club and a city commissioner. Reason '57 and his wife, Marge, volunteer at a local community clinic providing medical services to low-income families without insurance. They travel as often as possible and have visited Europe several times, including the D‑Day beaches at Normandy. Dan and Norman D. Shinkle '72 was a member of the Michigan Senate from 1982 to 1990 and is currently chairman of the 8th District Republican Congressional Committee. He lives in Williamston, Mich. Weaver '78 says it will be nice to get back in touch with his brothers. He and his wife, Maryann, have three grown children and six grandchildren, which he says is a sign of growing old. The couple lives in Buchanan, Mich. Christopher L. Bailo '81 is celebrating his 21st year in the beer brewing business and is currently sales director for The Pabst Brewing Co. All three of his children attend college in Ohio: the oldest at Ohio University and the two youngest at Miami in Oxford. Gildner '81 sold his company in 2005 and retired from full-time work in 2010. He says he's still dabbling with projects for his old clients but is starting to focus on golfing and hiking. Scott has lived in Scottsdale, Ariz., since 1997 and loves it there. He has fond memories of good times in the Beta house and would like to see the chapter recolonized.
