The Lion's Roar Indiana Delta Chapter t DePauw University t Fall 2013 House Corporation Transitions Chapter House to F&H Help Us Strengthen Our Legacy hings are quickly changing for Indiana Delta. The House Corporation has spent many hours finding the best ways to ensure the sustainability of our chapter. Over the past 15 years, with the guidance of Jan Kinzie '81 and Fred Fritz '81, the chapter was able to pay off the mortgage and complete extensive health, safety, and security updates. We upgraded the bathrooms, added a fire-suppression system, installed an electronic door-locking system, and completed many cosmetic enhancements that help attract new members. T GREEK LIFE CHANGES Greek life at DePauw has changed over the years and the number of eligible men entering fraternity recruitment continues to decline. Last year, 161 men participated in recruitment with 10 fraternities recruiting. Also, freshmen no longer live in the chapter house and seniors are beginning to opt for high-end University duplex units. There are a few chapter houses on campus that can hold up to 60 or 70 men. Our chapter house is configured to hold roughly 40 men. With fewer men and only about two classes living in the house at any given time, we would need to recruit 20 men per year to keep the chapter house full. To accomplish this, the active alumni must focus their time on working with the undergraduates to ensure recruitment is successful and to build a stronger SAE chapter. We are adapting with the times and have made the decision to partner with SAE Financial & Housing Corporation to take our chapter to the next level. F&H PARTNERSHIP BENEFITS INDIANA DELTA We are working through a seemingly unending amount of paperwork to deed the chapter house to our national fraternity and expect the process to be completed over the next few months. You may be asking, so why is this a good decision and how will it benefit Indiana Delta? SAE F&H has the financial power to assist our chapter in several ways: 1. They operate three chapters in Indiana (IU, ISU, and DPU.) With this comes the ability to get better pricing on food and supplies. We also will be able to reduce operating costs, which allows us to gain daily cleaning of public areas and bathrooms, yard and snow services, and an increased menu of more than 100 entrée choices. 2. They have the ability to make large capital improvements. Following the 2013-14 school year, F&H will add ductless heating and air conditioning systems, new windows, improved insulation for better energy efficiency, and new furniture for the entire house. 3. In addition to the physical house improvements, David Egger '05 negotiated the creation of a $250,000 scholarship fund to be directed by the alumni. The scholarship fund can be used to reward undergraduates for outstanding performance, leadership, or any other accomplishments that we feel deserving. Thank you, David, for your hard work and dedication. ALUMNI FOCUS ON UNDERGRADUATE DEVELOPMENT F&H's main role is to act as the landlord and property manager. A new Alumni Association is being formed that will focus 100% of their efforts on the development of the undergraduates. By spending our time with these young men, we are confident that our chapter will once again rise to the top. We need your help to accomplish our goals. We need alumni from all generations to offer a few hours per year to assist with developing the skills of the undergraduates. If you can spare just two hours a year, we can promise not only that the men will appreciate your assistance, but that you will feel great for helping. Please reach out to David Egger at davidegger@me.com or me at golfnutld@att.net to get started. This is an exciting time in our chapter's history and we look forward to leaving a legacy that makes you proud. Phi Alpha, Lance DeNardin '86 House Corporation President golfnutld@att.net During lunch at the chapter house, Lance DeNardin '86 explained our new partnership with SAE Financial & Housing Corporation. Lance DeNardin '86 and Fred Fritz '81 get feedback from alumni about the SAE Financial & Housing partnership. Alumni reconnect during the reunion luncheon. The DePauw class of 1963 celebrates its 50th anniversary during convocation. INSIDE: Annual Campaign Donors — 2 t SAE Proposes Alcohol-Free Housing — 3 t Indiana Delta Creates 45-Day Plan — 3
