2B – Daily News – Friday, November 19, 2010 King Felix! Seattle ace Hernandez wins ALCy Young NEW YORK (AP) — For once, Felix Hernandez got all the support he needed for a big win. The Seattle ace earned the AL Cy Young Award on Thursday despite a modest 13-12 record. His major league-leading 2.27 ERA and superior stats put him far ahead of Tampa Bay’s David Price and the Yan- kees’ CC Sabathia and their impressive win-loss num- bers. Victimized by the Mariners’ poor hitting all season, Hernandez found ample backing with the vot- ers in this pitchers’ duel. They clearly recognized how little the last-place Mariners helped him — in 10 starts, they were either shut out and held to one run. ‘‘This confirms the Cy Young is an award not only FOOTBALL Section Semifinals All games Friday except where noted Division-VI Playoffs Mercy at Butte Valley, 6 p.m. Dunsmuir at Hayfork, 7 p.m. Division-I Playoffs Pleasant Valley at Paradise, 7 p.m. Shasta at Foothill, 7 p.m. Division-II Playoffs West Valley at Lassen, Thursday night Sutter at Wheatland, 7 p.m. Division-III Playoffs Trinity at Durham, 7 p.m. Willows at Live Oak, 7 p.m. Division-IV Playoffs Hamilton at Maxwell, 7 p.m. Modoc at Quincy, 7 p.m. NHL Thursday’s results NFL Thursday’s result Chicago 16, Miami 0 Dallas 5, San Jose 4,OT Boston 4, Florida 0 Nashville 3, Montreal 0 Tampa Bay 8, Philadelphia 7 Toronto 3, New Jersey 1 Today’s games NCAAFOOTBALL Thursday’s Top 25 result No. 10 Alabama 63, Georgia State 7 Today’s Top 25 game No.3 Boise St.vs.Fresno St., 6:30 p.m., ESPN2 Carolina at Pittsburgh, 4 p.m. Los Angeles at Buffalo, 4:30 p.m. Minnesota at Detroit, 4:30 p.m. Washington at Atlanta, 4:30 p.m., NHLN Ottawa at St. Louis, 5 p.m. N.Y.
