2A – Daily News – Wednesday, November 17, 2010 Community people&events Community Clips Award Soroptimist International of Red Bluff is looking for qualifying candidates for the Violet Richardson Award, which honors young women between the ages of 14 to 17. The award recognizes young women who make the community and world a better place through vol- unteer efforts, especially actions that benefit women or girls. This award begins at the local level with a $300 award. The club level winner then becomes eligible for one of twenty-eight $1,000 awards. In addition, $1,000 will be contributed in honor of these winners to their volunteer organizations. One finalist will be chosen from among the 28 winners for an additional award, including a contri- bution of $2,500 to the finalist’s volunteer organiza- tion. The application deadline is Dec. 1. Meeting Red Bluff-Tehama county branch of American Association of University Women will have its tradi- tional stew supper at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the home of Gail Locke. A variety of stews and soups will be served in a handmade pottery bowl. The $15 donation will be divided between the local scholarship and AAUW Funds, the national programs for legal aid, scholar- ships and fellowships. The students learned about local crops grown in Tehama County as they made the cow. Pictures of local produce were attached to the side. The students named her "Tehama COW-nty." Upcoming fundraisers • Rub A Dub Dog Grooming, 813 Lincoln St., invites the community to help support the Salvation Army, whose cupboards are dangerously close to bare. With the holiday season approaching, the business has kicked off its annual food drive earlier. Through Dec. 23 receive $1 off for every non-perishable food item donated, up to $5 per pet. All food items are appreciated, but there is a special need for items for holiday dinners, including canned veggies, cranberries, stuffing, gravy, cake mixes and frosting and baby food. In 2009, almost a thousand food items were collect- ed to help local families and the business would like to thank the community for its generosity. For more information call 528-2364. • The Annual Spaghetti feed By Tehama County Foster an Adoptive Parents Association benefitting Christmas Party for the kid's will be 5-7 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Red Bluff Moose Lodge, 11745 Highway 99W.
