Lisa Hansen (Continued from page 2) "It has been such a blessing," Hansen said. "I was a single mom for many years and it allowed me to give my daughter college and a roof over our heads. I did get my Associates as a legal secretary while working, being a mom and taking classes part time. It took five years, but I took a little of everything we would be hiring for, which has helped with this job." While life did not go exactly as planned, it has worked out well, including marrying her husband Randy five years ago. Randy owns the Eureka Express Employment Professionals office and telecommutes, she said. Together the couple is able to help people, which is Hansen's favorite part of the job, she said. "It's the hope you provide to people," Hansen said. "We consider ourselves doctors of hope. There have been thousands and thousands we have been able to help from money in their pockets to food on the table and hopefully in finding a better career." Express also helps other companies by providing solutions for those who might not have enough work to hire full-time, to supplemental staff, she said. Companies are then able to focus on business instead of employment issues. The business can also have its challenges, especially since the product it has to offer is people, Hansen said. "You don't have control over whether they'll show up or if they'll have a great attitude," Hansen said. "Right now our challenge is finding good people who are skilled. We are a third-party mediator. A one-stop shop." Part of Hansen's job is to help people who come through the door by explaining the process and putting them at ease, she said. "It doesn't cost anything and there is no fee for service," Hansen said. "That is paid for by the hiring company. For a lot of people there is the fear of the unknown. Some of them have not interviewed for 15 years. We try to put them at ease and give them a sense of hope." When it comes to business, Hansen's advice is to not be afraid, she said. "The most important thing is to be fearless," Hansen said. "Don't let anyone say you can't do something because, to me, that's a challenge. Don't let adversity get you down. Use it as a learning lesson and a way to grow."
