A
s house manager last semester, I wanted
to bring more responsibility to the position
and improve the conditions of the Illinois Beta
house. I took the initiative to enter the Sigma
Alpha Epsilon House Improvement Project
Contest. As it was springtime, I focused on
improving the exterior of the house. Dominic
Fumo '15 and I led and motivated the chapter
to help accomplish our goal. Our efforts paid
off in a beautiful house and receipt of the Best
Green Housing Project award from the national
fraternity. This is only a stepping-stone to
future improvements we need at Illinois Beta.
In my new position as alumni chairman, it is
my goal to restore the old traditions of Sigma
Alpha Epsilon with the younger generations.
This August, I hosted an event in Chicago at
an alumni-owned club, thanks to Ben Hamm
'00. His accommodations were beyond my
expectations and I believe we all owe him a Phi
Alpha for letting us once again dwell together
in unity.
The Phi Alpha Golf Outing (PAGO), held
September 6, was by far one of the most
successful we have had in recent years. We
had 12 active members participate with more
than 20 alumni, who continue to foster and aid
the growth of the young men of Sigma Alpha
Epsilon. After golf, we had a barbecue at my
campus apartment where active members
and alumni had the chance to socialize and
share stories. It was an ideal setting for the
alumni to demonstrate what it means to be a
brother of Sigma Alpha Epsilon many years
after they graduated from the University of
Illinois. I appreciate the alumni who came out
and participated in the event. I look forward
to working with our alumni at future events to
further promote the traditions of Sigma Alpha
Epsilon.
