Our Proud History: First Sorority on Campus S ince our founding over 108 years ago, Kappa Delta has been at the heart of Greek life at the University of Alabama. With more than 2,500 initiates, Zeta Chapter has nurtured and sustained women during some of the most formative years of their lives, cultivating lasting friendships in the process. In addition to the standards taught by our sisterhood, we acquired valuable assets, which include leadership skills, organizational skills, social skills, teamwork, and character. These traits have been integral to our personal success and helped make us the women we are today. The original Zeta Chapter House was built in 1904 and was renovated in 1964. For the past two years the Kappa Delta House Corporation has been studying the needs of the Chapter—specifically the lack of space and functionality. It has become clear that we must make a major investment in our Chapter House. If we wish for KD to continue its strong presence on the University of Alabama campus, we must ensure that we are providing a safe, modern, and competitive facility. Now is the appropriate time to secure our future. "Being a Kappa Delta for 65 years and living in Tuscaloosa have provided many special times in my life. It is very fulfilling to claim three Zeta daughters and three Zeta granddaughters. The memories of the first house are vivid, and working with the girls in the present house has given me many young Zeta friends, too. The thought of the new house is so exciting! May you all love Kappa Delta as much as my family does." -Betty Bailey Shirley '49, Honorary Chairman of First Sorority, First Circle…Continuing the Tradition
