With current membership more than 120 brothers, the chapter's impact continues to grow both on and off campus. The brothers of Delta Chapter continue to excel in the classroom, on the athletic field, as well as in the community. With the support of parents, alumni, and numerous other individuals, the Delta Chapter of Sigma Nu remains one of the premiere fraternities at the University of South Carolina. Recruitment Success A We initiated 39 brothers last fall and another five in the spring. After a historic recruitment effort this fall led by Recruitment Chairmen Sam Myers '14, ∆ 1709, and Jordan Drake '12, ∆1760, the chapter welcomed 52 new candidates for the fall 2013 pledge class. One of the largest new member classes on campus, the men of this year's candidate class hail from across the state as well as the southeast. Many of the candidates are also Delta Chapter legacies, which stands as a testament to the strength of the chapter's tradition. As always, alumni recommendations played a key role in helping the chapter secure the best possible candidates for Sigma Nu. Any future alumni recommendations should be submitted to the fraternity as early as possible, as to ensure that they receive the full attention of the chapter. Excelling Academically Continuing our commitment to excellence in the classroom, Delta Chapter maintained one of the top GPAs in the Greek Village. Last fall, the active members of the fraternity posted a semester GPA of 3.08. In addition, the fall candidates finished up with a 3.19—the highest by a freshman class in more than three semesters. Building upon this success, brothers posted an impressive 3.21 GPA in the spring. The chapter's 3.21 bested both the university's all-men's average (3.07) as well as the all-IFC average (3.12). The chapter is working with a group of alumni to outfit a new study room in the fraternity house. Any alumni interested in getting involved with the project should contact Alumni Relations Chairman Sam Salvato '14, ∆1684, at salvatos@email.sc.edu. Sigma Nu Leadership Brothers of the Delta Chapter continue to be involved in various leadership roles both on campus as well as in the surrounding community. Brooks DuBose III '11, ∆1739, worked as a senior counselor during the annual Palmetto Boys State this summer. Lt. Commander Grant Hurd '11, ∆1733, is actively involved with Greek Impact, a student-led Christian organization for fraternities and sororities in the Greek Village. This past summer, Ken DeHart '10, ∆1698, was ranked the number 23 intern out of 1,436 for Northwestern Mutual. Josh Speed '10, ∆1685, was selected to represent the University of South Carolina at the Midlands Reality Check, a commercial real estate and development event held in Columbia by the South Carolina Urban Land Institute. Actives Carry On Tradition In Delta Chapter tradition, active members participated in the 2012 Sigma Nu Game Ball Run before the Clemson-Carolina game. Brothers endured a chilly 74-mile team run from Williams-Brice Stadium to Greenwood, where they met the Theta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Nu from Clemson. Benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Game Ball Run was able to raise thousands of dollars through donations, sponsorships, and t-shirt sales. Former Commander Will Lawson '10, ∆1687, and Lt. Commander Grant Hurd '11, ∆1733, were also honored at the 50-yard line of Memorial Stadium during halftime of the football game. www.sigmanu.org Next year will mark the 140th anniversary of Delta Chapter's chartering at the University of South Carolina. I think that it is important for us to look back at how far we've come, but also to where we are going. I truly believe that we have the resources, alumni, and tradition to be the best Sigma Nu chapter in the country. Thank you for your continued support of the Delta Chapter as we work toward this goal. Fraternally, Zach Eisenman '14, ∆1706 President eisenmaz@email.sc.edu • www.facebook.com/GamecockSigmaNus
