PI Kappa Phi page 5 Brothers Anticipate Move into New Chapter House in Spring 2014 Omicron Chapter Completes Successful Recruitment Program Undergraduates Focus on Academic Improvement Thank You for Your Efforts and Donations The undergraduate members of the Omicron Chapter would like to express our gratitude for all of the alumni who have made the new Chapter House a reality through their hard work and generous donations. We could not be more grateful and eager to move in next spring. I hope all of you can make it back to the last Brothers' Night Out on September 27 at 6 p.m. It will be a great time to share the memories of our current home and get a look at our future Chapter House. Chapter Welcomes 48 New Members Due to the hard work by Vice Archon Eric Midenburg '11 and Recruitment Chairmen Will Coleman '11 and Chris Cornelius '11, the Omicron Chapter is heading into fall with 48 new members. With the move into the new house set for the spring semester, there is a necessity for larger pledge classes to keep the house bill reasonable enough for members to stay active for four years. Our focus was to uphold the same standard of men we have recruited in the past, despite the rise in numbers. I am pleased to announce that we have met, if not exceeded, that standard. The pledge class includes 20 young men from the state of Alabama and many from towns we have not recruited anyone from in years. Brothers Work to Boost GPA More effort than ever is being put toward a change in the academic performance of our Chapter. The Executive Council has designed a new mentor-based study program for the new members this fall. Twenty-five of the top Brothers in the Fraternity have been selected to serve as academic mentors for the fall. Each mentor will have two pledges assigned to him, and he will be in charge of collecting all syllabi and class schedules from his mentees. The pledges will keep a planner outlining their quiz and homework deadlines, study schedule for tests, lab hours, etc. They will go over that schedule in one of two weekly meetings with their mentor. In the other meeting, the mentor will go online and check all of the grades in each of his classes. The point of this new program is to provide structure and accountability for pledges in the hopes that it will not only benefit their grades this fall, but they will carry over these study habits into next semester and on. I'm expecting a long-awaited jump in our Chapter GPA this semester.
